They provide 07973 and 07953 numbers though, which are compliant.
You're correct that standard rate mobile numbers are compliant, but EE has only published an 0844 number for existing home broadband customers.

Ahhh... A little known fact is that you can use the 07xxx access numbers and select option 2 for home broadband. A little tweak to the website will sort that.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Whoever is writing that "press release" should employ a proofreader.
many companies have recently changed their 084 and 087 numbers to the equivalent 034 and 087 numbers

    Really?

That works only for those who have EE, Orange or T-Mobile mobile service. I was referring to EE's broadband customers.

So how does that work for an ex-customer who might want to query their final bill?

So was I, for those who have mobile phone and home broadband from the same supplier.

Other people have already pointed out that home broadband queries can also be made via the menus on the 07973 and 07953 customer service numbers.

I was adding that the same applies to calling 150 from an Orange mobile. The same would apply to T-mobile and EE.

The EE website has 150 as the headlined first suggestion above the other methods.

The purpose of allowing mobile numbers was for small traders such as plumbers, not for a large business such as EE to use them for landline call centres. Although EE complies with the letter of the law on this, it does not comply with the spirit.
  • Avios still continue to use the 0844 number for bookings

This is the only number they promote on website unless you you use webchat
