I agree. The excuse I received from BIS with regard to the exclusion of financial services was that "sector specific legislation may be more appropriate". However, BIS and all other relevant public bodies subsequently neglected to implement separate legislation for financial services regarding this abuse of surcharged telephone numbers. The FCA has finally conceded as explained above, but it is unlikely to have the same clout.robbies_gal wrote: »why are banks exempt makes me so angry0 -
EE are in breach of regulations. Still using 0844/0845/0870 contact numbers.

Most major banks have already switched to 03 or are in the process of doing so.

After a quick search about today I found loads of companies have not changed there 084 or 087 numbers neither are they offering 01,02,03 numbers. Why are big companies continually allowed to break the law and are given time to comply AFTER the law comes in? They new this was coming so there is no excuse for it and everyone of them should be fined as you and I would be if we failed to comply from the date of the introduction of any new law.0

Incorrect. Technical support numbers are included, provided that the support relates to the goods or services previously purchased. See the BIS guidance above. For example, an ISP must use a basic rate number for support for its service, but would be allowed to operate a premium rate number for general PC support.p24hrsmith wrote: »This law covers customer service numbers not tech support numbers0 -

12. Where a trader offers a technical support line, this need not come under
regulation 41, provided it is a discrete service, and not one on which the caller
is also expected to call to discuss problems with a purchase already made.
Provided the trader makes it clear that it is a separate service for which a
separate fee (paid for through the enhanced cost of the call) is payable and
not one for post purchase problems, regulation 41 will not apply
so yes it is included IF you purchased goods from sell and had a problem as this is technically customer support not tech support but if you purchased say a Samsung phone from T-mobile but called Samsung for tech support they can use a 084 087 number.0 -
It depends on whether Samsung are acting as an agent for T-Mobile. If they are, then Samsung's support line would be covered. In any case, given that Samsung would be unlikely to have separate technical support lines for those who have bought directly from Samsung and those who have bought from third parties, in practice Samsung would need to provide a basic rate support line.p24hrsmith wrote: »so yes it is included IF you purchased goods from sell and had a problem as this is technically customer support not tech support but if you purchased say a Samsung phone from T-mobile but called Samsung for tech support they can use a 084 087 number.0 -

They provide 07973 and 07953 numbers though, which are compliant.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0
