When hubby comes home & asks wher tea is, I'll tell him it's your fault I've been too busy to cook as I'm reading yet another blog, lol. He's never even read mine!

Just found a free e-book called "Possum Living - how to live well without a job and with (almost) no money" by Dolly Freed. U.S. book written in the 1970s - and no its not fiction I gather - this was for real. A real "period piece" - amusement value basically, unless one wants to have a recipe for moonshine and the like of course. The author's remedy for virtually all ailments seemed to be her own homemade moonshine:rotfl:

    Its on:

(leastways y'all - dont think its fiction - unless that authorname means summat!)

(edited: oh dear.... I do hope some of it is fiction - "longpork" apparently refers to cannibalism - aaaagh!)

... and whilst on a nostalgia trip I found an interesting website I think I'll go off on a browse round:

    http://www.hippy.com/

My first pick-out from that is the recipes section:

Thats me sorted for an evenings "surfing" - might even go and look out the joss sticks and an old cassette by Donovan.

I've just read some and skimmed some through the book. It is really funny and I enjoyed it very much. I do think that she has a lot if good stuff in there. She is right about the chickens. Even now, the three Warrens are giving us 21 eggs a week. The rabbit idea is also a good one. We had a holiday in a gite that was attached to a farm. They kept rabbits for the pot. They were in a barn, kept in a huge round pen, dozens of them. There were hutches in there and I think, after reading the book, they must be the breeding stock.

One thing, I don't believe that the three chickens in the cellar don't smell!

Great link Ceridwen...I have decided not to buy any clothes until I have worn out all the ones I have...both to save money and the environment.

I am conscious of the need when buying underwear, tights etc to avoid those shops who don't have a great record where sweatshops are concerned.

I'm still continuing with my challenge to not buy any new clothes. I've bought a few winter togs from ebay and not bought anything new in six months except underwear. Unfotunately, I thnk the people who buy most of the cheap fashion are not necessarily the kind of people who will be bothered by these stories. I was especially moved by this paragraph in the article

"There's nothing wrong with girls aspiring to be like other women. The irony of it is that, by wearing these clothes, young women are aspiring to be like glamorous women but they're actually only attaining that by exploiting other young women who essentially have the same dreams and aspirations but are never going to realise them."

    a sobering thought...
