Thats a pickle. You dont own the battery in the car..

The new owner must take on the terms of the lease also. So if you have a 4 year plan for £70 they must pay that.

    Dodgy seller that one...

There are going to be many of these leafs on the market soon with a cheap price tag but a contract on the battery. Why do you say 4 year plan? You never stop paying the lease unless you buy a battery for £5K.

So what if I bought a new leaf with a contract, then in time wanted to sell the car. What if the buyer I found didnt have a very good credit rating? Id that my business or can I just sell the car and Nissan have to worry about that?
  • I can see lots of nissan leafs very cheap soon, but the seller having a hard time finding someone who wants to take on that monthly contract. If its the same cost every month as a tank of fuel, and some months you may not use the car much.

the only other options are scrap the car to stop paying it, or buy a battery yourself.
  • what would happen if you stopped paying the monthly fee just after they replaced the battery? the car is yours but the battery is theirs, would they come and take it out?

The value of the court case could be more than the car/battery is worth so they take it away and send you the bill for the rest.

A second hand Leaf could be a very sensible financial purchase IF it fits your driving habits. I've got one and as per Guinesscat, running a new well equipped car has cost less than keeping an old small car on the road. Definitely worth considering if you can answer yes to the following

    - reasonable annual mileage (6k miles +) or fuel savings don;t add up to much
    - majority of daily journeys are sub 50 miles - this will be comfortably within range even for an older 100k miler car
    - you have another car for longer journeys OR you are willing to plan your journey a little, there are now lots of (free) rapid charging points springing up at service stations across the motorway network

    The benefits increase if
    - you can access free charging at either end of regular journeys - I've been charging for free at work using public charging points for over a year
    - you can get free parking in electric spaces when you were previously paying for parking

I get the option of whether to buy mine when my 18mth trial ends in a month or two, and I've crunched the numbers again and can;t find any other motoring option which will be cheaper for my commute for the next few years.

EDIT - As well as the costs, it is a lovely car to drive, nippy, quiet and very well equipped - unlike the old one it replaced!

Another key benefit would be if you regularly drive into the London Congestion Zone.

Also - if you have PV Panels then you can effectively drive for free if you are able to charge during the day.

Mine is up shortly too. My Balloon payment is ~12.5K though - so I don't think I'll be keeping it. As the title of the thread implies, I can get a lower mileage one for a fair bit cheaper.

I'm looking around for a similar deal to the one I got before on a new Tekna (with battery) - if I don't manage to find anything by the time the PCP is up, I'll get another Gen 1 from auction - they appear to be going for <8K.

    Yes, couldn't agree more
