I have a Batleys near me and they supply all of the rubbish to the pound shops. Everything is 49p.

Most of the stuff I sell are advertised on other sites - preloved, gumtree etc so sometimes I pull them off eBay as they have sold elsewhere

    - will I get a defect for this?

For Buy It Now items you shouldn't. If it is an auction then you will be charged a final value fee as if it had sold.

The only way you would get a defect is if you sold the item on Ebay. But had already sold it elsewhere and so cancelled the sale on Ebay and refunded.

Never bother with auctions to be honest. I find BIN with B/O works much better.

Without giving away too much, have a look at completed items on eBay and see what sells for 99p then see if you can source it.

I hadn't thought of that, cheers, thats very kind of you :))

My biggest problem with defect rate is that EBAY trick buyers into opening a claim.

Ive gone many years with no claims - but ive had a few recently - all promptly closed by buyers who realised their errors - but i get punished.

I tried to contact a seller myself yesterday - and got a message "talk to your seller". I clicked on it and it was not getting me talking - it was making me open a claim.

    More Ebay anti-seller clap-trap.

Just a point to newbies thinking of selling 99p items: You are probably still using the same Paypal account as usual so you'll be charged 20p + 3.5% (or similar rate) out of the 99p as well as the eBay fees.
If you are selling at zero profit or a loss, be aware that other mainstream sellers may use you to send out goods for them without you knowing, and they can leave whatever stars they want which detracts from your original decision to do it.
Finally, just don't underestimate what it takes in time to send out 100 small packets of 99p items and dealing with the customer service side. You'll still have to deal with the issues, however cheap the item was, so in the words of Deborah Meaden, "you can end up a busy fool."

It's not an error, your customer's order was late, your transaction is defective, simple as that.

I don't think it was mentioned above but SNAD cases are also defects.

Any case closed in your favour by eBay will see the defect removed and any feedback removed will not be a defect (revised feedback keeps it's defect). If you lose the case but eBay removes feedback they'll only remove the feedback defect and visa versa so you'll still have a defect in such a situation.

The pop up on the dashboard has a link to a report to see your defects, always worth checking the positive feedbacks with lows as eBay will now remove dispatch lows if the buyer took more than 3 days to pay or if you can convince CS it was an error (e.g comment says speedy delivery and was left before or on the ETA but a low was left).

When cancelling it's best to have two tabs open, one to do the refund and one to do the cancellation, do the cancellation as buyer purchased in error or by mistake (assuming they did) and then the refund straight after (the cancellation tells the buyer not to agree until they are refunded but this way the refund will go before they even see the cancellation).

It's always worth adding a message explaining why you've opened a cancellation and that it will not affect the buyer's account in anyway.

We have a third window open and send this message both in the case and via eBay's "contact buyer" form.

I agree, I wouldn't be without my micro account.

Do these rules apply to all sellers or just businesses?
