So as per skitlers recommendation I should have the two wires in neutral and live then a separate bit of wire joining neutral and switched live ?
If that is right I will try it and report back

no, don't do that.
neutral on its own. in the neutral terminal
the live you have to go in the sw/ live terminal
a link from there to the perminant live terminal.
theoretically you should have 3 wires as there are only 2 you need to link the lives in the fan or it will keep going off as it does.0 -
