Bathroom extractor fan problem

Hi I had a new bathroom installed and had a new fan extractor fan put in with an isolation switch
All was running ok however after approx 30 minutes the fan turns off even when switched on
It's a vents make fan 4"
From what I can see it has been wired using the circuit from the spot lights with a black and brown wire to the live and neutral terminals in the fan
The strange thing is when I took the wires out of the fan terminals to check the connections and put it back it was working fine and again after approx 30 mins it cut out and then I disconnected and reconnected again and it was working
Does anyone know what the problem may be here
I have two bathrooms with the same make fan with the same problem ?

is it a 12v or 240v fan.
the wire colours quoted are not relivent for either.
now if you only have 2 wires + earth at the fan then that's conducive to a 12v fan.
for a 240v fan there should be 3 wires, + earth
perminant live
switched live
neutral.
how many connections are in the fan unit, not inc the earth.0 -
Its on a timer?0

What do you mean by "a vents make fan 4" "
Please explain the make and model and we may be able to help.
If you have two fans doing the same thing, it sounds like it's a feature. You switch it on and it switches off after an hour. Useful.0 -
I used to have a Vent-Axia 4" fan that ran for 10 or 15 minutes after it was turned off; great for clearing a steamy bathroom. Sounds like a relative; maybe there's a switch inside to set the timer?0

It's a fantronix vents fan low noise
It's not the timer as it stops working while the light switch is on
There are only two wires going into it - the live and neutral terminals and the fan runs from the same switch as the main lights0 -
It does switch off after half an hour even if you are still in the bathroom with the light on and it doesn't come on again unless you disconnect and reconnect the wires
I am confused I will call an electrician but wanted to see if there was an obvious problem before spending loads on an electrician0 -
Just sounds like a fan with a timer. They have a permanent live and a switched live.0
-
Maybe the switched live and permanent live are the wrong way around.0

op only mentioned 2 wires at fan, you need 3 for a over run, as smileygills will have so the fan will run on after the light is off.
who ever installed it has done the job wrong,
ideally it should be a 12v fan in the bathroom and the timer will then be in the transformer box situated ideally next to the 3 pole isolater outside the bathroom or in loft.
op said its a brown and black cable, which dosent exist so its not wired to current regs.
op needs to get a qualified electrician to get it looked at.0 -
I will get it looked at
The fan has a live, switched live and neutral input
There are wires going to the live and neutral terminals
Fan works fine but it cuts out after w while which is the issue
Thanks anyway for all the advice0
