Buyer still wants faulty item

I listed a DVD on ebay for a friend which sold last night for a few quid. When I told them it had sold their response was "Ha ha, it doesn't even play properly!" - I'm so annoyed with them, why ask me to sell it then? Never list for friends!

Anyway, I'm obviously not prepared to send out a faulty DVD so emailed the seller and apologised profusely for not realising beforehand that the DVD is actually faulty and won't play, will refund immediately etc.

Buyer said: please send the dvd and i will check to see if its working on my dvd player i do not wish to cancel this transaction.

I've tried it on my own player and it definitely doesn't work.

So I said: I will of course still send it if you'd like to chance it, but if you do find it doesn't work I'm afraid I won't be able to accept it back again for a refund as I can only presume it is faulty. Is that ok?

And she said: send the dvd and we will go from there it may be your dvd that not working as mine is new i shall try it on mine

What would your advice be? I've told her it's faulty, I really don't think it will work. I don't want to lose out here and really think it's best we cancel the transaction but buyer obviously doesn't want to.

  • I think you are best cancelling the transaction straight away. For the sake of a few quid!

What's the worst she can do if I cancel it? If she left negative feedback could I get it removed on the basis that I told her it was faulty?

If you know it's faulty, you can't in all good conscience send it out.

Just refund the buyer, and apologise.

You are going to disappoint this buyer whatever happens.

I explained that I didn't want to send out a faulty DVD and have refunded in full with apologies for any disappointment.

"you know what i do not belive you but thanks anyway i think you just didnt wont it to go for that price"

Not true, I started it at 99p and didn't even think it would sell, but can't win them all I suppose. Expecting my first negative feedback!

Don't list stuff for your friend, help him / her to open thier own account.

    Do a refund.

You could offer to post it if the buyer covers the cost of postage. No point having a faulty DVD.

Refund the buyer and send it anyway
It will go in a large letter so cost is a quid or so. Clearly a faulty cd has no worth to you so you are not giving much away and it would be a mean buyer that gave a neg for a free cd

They don't want their own account, I mentioned I had some stuff to list and they gave me two DVDs they had been meaning to get rid of. Lesson learned of course, I might present them with an invoice for wasting my time.

Anyway I've had my negative feedback, I made false claims, I'm one to avoid, BUYERS BEWARE etc etc. Oh well!

That never even occurred to me. Maybe if she hadn't started calling me a liar I might have done but I really don't want to do her any favours. Blocked and moved on with a new shiny red neg.

It always seems to be women who leave the spiteful negative comments, I wonder why that is?
