Anybody bought a house from Morris Homes?

I'd also be really interested to hear about people's experiences of Morris Homes (both good and bad).
We aren't set on new build / old houses - I'm very aware of the pros and cons of new and old properties so don't really want the debate about that, but as a first time buyer with potential schemes we are really keeping our options open.
There's an upcoming development in an area we have been looking at and Morris are the builders. The development is still in its infancy so we can't have a look at the houses or quality, show home will be ready end of Feb (under no illusions they will make it look really fancy etc).
When having a general search about Morris homes, i see all the horror stories and have been on their website where they claim to be "UK's no 1 for customer satisfaction".
But if anyone could share any more experienced they've recently had I'd really appreciate it
House Deposit: £40,000 / £30,000 (+H2B bonus) 🍾🎉

Has anyone sold a Morris Home? Any idea on timescale of them getting the 'management pack' to you?0
-
I purchased a Morris home 4 bed almost two years ago. I have previously lived in new build houses by other developers however never had the problems as I have had with Morris Homes
The design of the house from outside is lovely, bedrooms are on the small size. 'Problems' well that is a word I have never thought I would used as much as I have since purchasing the house. Faults have to be logged with customer service, so everything is logged however NOBODY cares how many times the same issue is reported!. The same problem is looked into over and over again, being told its fine for example we reported a faulty window however it took the 4th visit for Morris Homes to admit there was a problem, a problem which which resulted in the whole window being replaced. The faults go on but everything is a struggle with this company. Ironically I was warned by a work colleague to avoid the company at all cost due to faults they had and the stress of getting a resolution from the company.
The company don't work at your convenience even though it's their faults they are fixing, they EXPECT you to drop everything to meet their convenience.
All I can stress is look around as after reading the Morris Home reviews on this site I wish I had.0 -

Morris are very good at promising the best of everything at a premium price and claim to be very proud of their 'customer service' level, but in our experience, they fail to keep that promise despite having the potential to do so. Their biggest let down is not just the quality of the finished house, which as we all know in the building trade is a random game of luck, but how they manage their customers expectations and deal with them during the process. This with Morris Homes unfortunately is near non existent before completion and then seems to disappear after they have your money without ever making you feel like a valued customer. Trying to get a telephone number for anyone from site manager upwards was impossible. They keep you at arms length and when they do call you, it's from 'number withheld'.
This appears to be a Company/Management problem within a failing culture of complacency. This is why they've had such strong negative feedback online and on TV media. It won't be changed by building a few good quality houses with some happy customers.
Most customers can be made happy by effective communication and a will to resolve issues.
It is never acceptable to burden your customers with the cost of poor quality, but unfortunately this appears to be the Morris philosophy to a lot of us.0 -
I have purchased a home at Forest Grange. Company are awful
I cannot believe the ineptitude of staff at this site and the awful customer service one receives. They just do not communicate. Once you have purchased a property you no longer exist to them. Their staff come across at the start as jovial, kind and fun but as soon as you sign that reservation form it is next to impossible to get them to help. If your house is delayed, they will not inform you. If you negotiate something into the purchase, they will backtrack anf fight to not give it to you.
Their staff seem incapable of simple things, like being human
In one of the best and driest winters on record, our house has been delayed numerous times. Fundamentally this can only be down to poor project management.
Wouldn't wish this company on my worst enemy.0 -
I bought a house off plan from Morris Homes and found 222 problems (the builders call them snags), I call it poor quality workmanship and lack of supervision and quality control.
I photographed each issue and sent the list and photos to their Regional Manager, who is taking an interest in the progress of rectifying the issues. The issues are getting resolved.
I will say that the kitchen white goods are very good quality, but the kitchen is spoiled with a laminated? chipboard worktop that is the poorest I've ever experienced. The bathroom porcelain is also good quality, but the shower frames and doors are of a poor quality.
One of their advertising slogans says: 'the perfect place to come home', another says: 'Morris. Committed to customer satisfaction' I wonder what the advertising standards people would say?
My advice if you are thinking of buying a new build house is: do not sign any contract, do not pay any deposit or exchange contracts until you have inspected the goods. Look very carefully at the outside of the house first and note and photograph everything that does not look right. Go inside the house and check everything works, even check tops of doors and door frames to see if they are painted. Search for 'snags' on the internet and you will find a comprehensive list of what to look for. When the builder has rectified all the faults, then proceed with the purchase. Do not be pressurised into a quick purchase.0 -
I purchased a home from Morris 18 months ago.
Yes there were a few issues when we moved in, broken roof tiles, guttering not in place, wrongly wired thermostat. That's why you snag the property as soon as you move in, get a professional company to do it. Morris fixed the issues within a few weeks, and even paid for a cleaning company to wash the carpets after they had completed the work.
Once you move away from the site manager the customer service isn't great but they still quick in an emergency, it's just the small things that take weeks.
Build quality is good, I know people who have had more issues with Redrow, Barratt, Taylor Wimpey, and Persimmon. But these people didn't bother to Snag the property first.0 -

I will say that the kitchen white goods are very good quality, but the kitchen is spoiled with a laminated? Lots of Kitchens come with laminate, you even chose the type laminate. chipboard worktop that is the poorest I've ever experienced. Again you chose the worktops and you had the choice to upgrade The bathroom porcelain is also good quality, but the shower frames and doors are of a poor quality.

Do not be pressurised into a quick purchase. If you follow this advise you will lose the option to choose what bathroom, kitchen and carpets you get. You'll also only be picking up what other people don't want as you have to reserve before the property is built to get all the options.[/QUOTE]
It is important to get a snag report done, just like you would get a survey for any existing building.0
