2.5" sata hard drive

Hiya,

Quick and easy question - where do folk tend to go to buy computer parts now-a days? I'm after a 2.5" sata hard drive for a hp netbook which I'd prefer to be cheap as possible. I'm reluctant to use ebay on this as a lot I've seen on there seem to be refurbished and not brand new.

Many thanks

Phil

    Hi Phil,

One of these boards may be better placed to help...

I Wanna Buy It or Do It

    Techie Stuff

I'm not sure many of us on the comping boards are tech-savvy enough to help, sorry!!

My only suggestion would be Amazon... Overclockers are also helpful, but prices can be a bit variable: they can be really cheap for some things, but expensive for others... There and Amazon are the main places I use for hardware. :)

I've used Scan and Aria for years, and they've both been brilliant (Aria not so much on the customer service if something goes wrong though, they can be a bit slow and unreliable there).

If you're a member of Hexus.net, you can also get free shipping with Scan too.

Dabs.com is probably the best supplier in the uk.
Or OVERCLOCKERS which i have used for years, and they are 100% reliable trustworthy, and ive never had a single problem, and their stuff is slightly cheaper than everywhere else on the net.

(DO NOT BUY SECOND HAND HARD DRIVES EVER!
They could contain very dodgy things even if they have been wiped its easy to recover deleted data)

Id recommend this its a steal at this price....

You can recover data from a drive after a standard delete and format but there are loads of tools to permanently delete all the contents of a disk which cannot be recovered at all.

CCleaner has a wipe disk option for instance.

Although ccleaner is great (i use it) it isnt anywhere near powerful enough to permantly delete data, there are only a few tools that can 100% do it and they cost money.
If you sent me a drive that you had deleted using ccleaner i can guarantee i could get most previous data.
Never risk buying second-hand anyway now that HDDS are so cheap.

(i tested some data using cc 35 passes, and still managed to recover it.)

I've used ebay, ebuyer, and Amazon to buy new PC bits.

Having had several HDD's from various manufactures I've found that Samsung make the most reliable drives.

    EBUYER, dabs, Amazon

eBay is okay if you look for the big sellers. Dabs and Ebuyer sell on ebay too plus you can get Nectar points

ebuyer or amazon or dabs I've never had an issue with.

I avoid scan after being overcharged and bearing the brunt of some pretty shocking customer service on the back of it.
