Exactly, huge difference between our situations. My last kitchen I painted the units which helped a lot.

Its incredible how much colour improves outlook.

One of the reasons I think its interesting what imagery what imagery, literature, music etc we surround our selves with is, like colour, regard less of aesthetic I am pretty sure this can have impact on how we we feel. I don't think some one who loves black will be cheered or their soul soothed by a baby pink kitchen, but I think there are colours worth looking at that might be more uplifting than black and not aggravating to a personal aesthetic.

If terracotta brings you down you should obliterate it.

Farrow and ball have a good page on colour choice depending on which way the light comes from....( even if you don't buy your paint from them ;) )

Ooh thanks. The other thing to think about is that we're on a very strict budget (think elf sized). I want to make it look a bit eclectic and pretty, whereas at the moment it looks like every other kitchen.

I painted mine a fairly neutral colour but change things that are less permanant. ATM its got hops up, ( since September) and our thanks giving decor......a couple of ears of red corn we grew, a sparkly hedgehog, a sparkly squirrel and a thanksgiving pheasant....( its not America, so no turkey).

Touches are through art on the wall, window dressings that sort of thing.

Just seen an amazing second hand dresser on gumtree. I may have to buy. Oooh.

  • I think we might need arctic foxes (but not the climate, please!) in our house!

They are beautiful, JM. It's going to be a very full house.

Just typed a huge post, hit the wrong button and lost it. Pah. Not playing any more.
It was a query about something, but I'll come back to it another time, can't be bothered retyping it all again now.

Getting the kitchen redone is on my list of jobs, after a couple of leaks leaving me with no kickboards, half the plaster falling off the walls and drawers with no bottoms in. Every time I think about visiting a kitchen show room I start losing the will to live, so I suspect it's not going to get fixed any time soon. Part of my procrastination is down to wanting one company to do the lot, not having any personal recommendations for workmen, and being fairly sure that I'll end up picking the cowboy.

There are times when I think renting and letting someone else have the hassle has a lot going for it.

elsien, have more faith in yourself. Get a few quotes and go with the people that you like the most.

Our outlaws have had all sorts of work done recently with a range of different people, none of them from personal recommendations, and everything has gone very well, with some being excellent.

    Elsien,

First of all decide what you want is my advice. There are people really good at advising at lay out if you lack confidence in that department on the 'in your home' board. Go in with the plan you get for your chosen kitchen after talking with a designer and they'll suggest any improvements you might consider. :) ( presuming you go fitted kitchen route).

The downside to living on your own - no one else [STRIKE]blame[/STRIKE][STRIKE] pass the buck to[/STRIKE] share responsibility with.

And in other news, having spent half an hour this morning attempting to haul a comatose Gitdog out of his pit to go for a walk (even treats didn't shift him), I am now pondering with interest exactly how early I'm going to need to get up to get to work on time.

Get him his own alarm clock? (This is a half-serious suggestion)
