    Hi Missko,

If it's any consolation I'm 38, single, in debt and live in a (admittedly nice) room in a shared house ;) life could be better but it could be a whole lot worse!

So I had a read through you're diary, wow you drink a lot of diet coke LOL

Don't be down in the dumps though pickle, having a little more weight and no BF isn't a big deal :) everyone loves a curvy girl and boys smell funny anyway ;) as for the hair, did you check out a college near you like Kimbo mentioned earlier? Or even more daring... Could you let it grow out and go back to your natural colour?

Great news about your Dad helping out btw, so much cheaper than paying for those expensive credit cards but I was wondering if you've been keeping your signature up to date? I know you've not been keeping a diary for too long but seeing the big numbers become small numbers is one hell of a motivator!!!

Also, you sound as though you might be budgeting a little too much? It's good to aim to get your debts down but if you're miserable then you need a little treat here and there... You mentioned right at the beginning that it's £60 per month for your hair? I'm guessing you could find it cheaper somewhere else (I'm a boy and am honestly clueless/making this up but it sounds reasonable) but say if you found somewhere for £30/40 then a quid or two here and there in a pot would soon add up you know ;)

I also think you need to start putting some cash aside for an emergency fund, it's good to pay your debts back asap but if you need to replace a tyre again (what are you doing, eating them? LOL) then the emergency fund comes into play and you just top it up afterwards... You could as you point out use your credit card but I'd probably avoid that unless you could repay it in full after it was used to avoid interest? Although I would in your shoes probably keep it open (with a much reduced limit, maybe £500) just in case ;)

Anyway, you sound like you're winning just going through a bit of a downer day so here's something to help cheer you up ;)

P.s. When you're going to work where there is free food, eat the food for free! ;)

  • Hi missko, followed you over from another thread. Like mb says, maybe you need to track your progress as I think you're doing well esp given the unexpected tyre costs. What exam are you doing?

Have confirmation I'm on electoral roll.
Not yet showing up on credit agencies.

Work contract extended til 31 Dec. Hating the work but obviously need the money.

Exam on Thursday. Can't wait til it's over. In the meantime, though, I have relapsed into ordering takeaways instead of leaving the house to buy proper food!

Well, suppose I'm saving a little by not driving to work at the moment (annual leave for exam).

Also continuing to keep my money diary - average spend per week £50. This is on food, toiletries and "non-essentials".

Bit fed up with my living situation as well - having to rent a room is no fun at age 31! The thing is, by trying to evict tenants and move back into my own flat too soon (ie before I can afford it) would mean that in the long run I could lose it.

Also a little grumpy that my hair looks !!!!!! cos haven't had time/money to get my roots done. Have also put on weight and have no boyfriend, just to complete the miserable situation!

I'm a bit "meh" tonight in case you hadn't realised!

Missko you are brilliant, keep up your good work but do 'live' in between all the saving. I too was in a similar bad situation and 10 years later have come out the other side, it may be a long journey but you will get through it, just look after yourself and WELL DONE :)
