Worth looking at Talktalk; negotiated 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 2.6 GB of data for £3.75 a month. Network is vodafone for now ( no 4G) but swapping over to O2.

Great deal, well done. It seems they only offer SIMs to their existing customers however, and my landline phone and broadband are with Virgin Media (I got a good deal on that so will stick with them).

Well, exactly and there is no way I would go for that.

I did get Tesco to up my 500MB to 1GB during my contract (which came with a free phone) in exchange for changing my £0 cap to £2.50, so that is something.

Long term I wonder if it is worth moving to a company which will later offer a retention deal, e.g. I have read about people on Virgin Media negotiating £5 a month deals. Their prices are not too bad to start with, £12 a month for 1GB data and unlimited calls and texts (£1 a day for data if limit exceeded).

Yea give thought of that myself. Only thing holding me back is I believe Virgin is EE's network and EE signal where I am isn't that great. Where as tesco use O2 and I always get full signal. Will have to look into talktalk.

I've got Virgin Media and I've switched to the £5 per month deal. Bought a simple basic phone to use for weekday and mobile-to-mobile calls. It's a very cheap deal but it gives you about an hour of calls per week and loads of texts we'll never use. Gives about 500MB of internet as well I think but we'll never use this as we've got their broadband.

Vectone do better deals I'm sure, but I'd check their feedback.

You can use apps to limit your data usage apparently but I'm no expert. I think that the mini-Opera version of the Opera browser saves a lot and also Onavo Extend is meant to save data usage as well.

My Tesco Mobile contract was nearly up, so I phoned up and got...

500 mins, 5000 texts, 750MB internet a month for £8.50 a month (24 months). They are also sending me a Samsung Galaxy Fame, which I will sell on Ebay.
  • I have the whole family on Tesco (was with Orange for 10 years until they went down the pan and sent jobs to overseas)

I have kids and I really like the capped contracts, this means I dont get a scary bill

I am on £15 a month (sim only now as I finished my handset part of the contract) and this gives me 3000 minutes, 5000 texts and 3Gb of data

    Will never go over that

Also- the customer service is excellent and based in the UK
    baldly going on...
