But why do Royal Mail state 5-7 days, that is ridiculous.

    Surely thats false advertising?

It's an aim not a guarantee.

Except that someone has pointed out that you don't seem to have used the service offering that aim, but a slightly different one.

You say you've got several cases like this: either stop using RM, or stop sending abroad.

I take it you've never been to India, or many parts of the world where the postal system works by hand and miracle. We are extremely lucky to have such a great system in the UK.

    Agreed

Personally I would never have sent such a high price item to India (or in fact anywhere overseas) & agree paypal as the payment method. I learnt by my own mistake by sending something to Portugal,... once.

The other thing to consider is it getting held up in customs till cleared, buyer delays it long enough to do a charge back the pays the custom charges after refund.

It may explain why they got it so quickly after the refund.

Just as an aside, when Mrs MbW and I were writing to each other before we got married, our letters took longer than that to get to each other.

When I lived in Scotland, it took about 4 weeks for a letter from me to reach her and vice versa.

When I moved down to Coventry, it takes about 2 weeks. But now I also write her address in Russian only (I used to put it in English and Russian on a printed sticky label), and put "(Russia)" on the envelope.

My letters would reach Moscow in about a day or 2, then it's in the hands of the Russian postal service.

You have not used the service which offers 5-7 days, that service is called international Track and Signed.

To put this into hopefully a more understandable context.

You have used the international equivalent of the Royal Mail Signed for - within the UK this was formerly known as recorded delivery. This service does not track an item every step of the way, in fact, the only time the barcode is scanned, should be at the doorstep whilst requesting a signature from the recipient.

In the UK, if sending items of value through the post, it is recommended that the special delivery service is used, as not only are the items then tracked as soon as the enter the network, they are scanned every time they move to a new point within it, up to the final destination where a signature is obtained. That service also offers insurance on the valuable item.

Royal Mail have not falsely advertised their international service, it is the case that you have not properly read the information contained within the site and have interpreted incorrectly the timescales (note, there are no timescales stated for the service you have chosen to use as they state that they cannot control these once the item has been passed to the relevant postal service in country of destination).

If you were to raise a claim of false advertising, it would be thrown out because it is clear the service you have used is not the service which offers the timescales you are obsessed with quoting.

My suggestion would be that you either go and re read the web page or you visit your local Post Office and ask a member of staff to fully explain to different options available for sending goods abroad.

But you didn't, apparently, send it using that service? The 5-7 days you're claiming is irrelevant.
