Oh sorted out for me. How daft am I lol xx

I am relieved to hear you didn't get a bath full of water coming through the ceiling. ;)

I learnt a lot of DIY from watching my dad when I was younger. I used to follow him around whatever jobs he was doing, not my mum. :o

A lot of things I know how to do in practice but I did teach Mr TS how to wallpaper properly, I could never have reached to do it properly. :D

Happy fathers Day to all the Dads

Our trip to Knowsley Safari Park was a bit of a fail yesterday. Broke down at Cheshire Oaks, and by the time the wonderful AA man had fixed the fan belt, it was too late to go to the Park.

Ended up just taking DM for a very un-MSE meal at local Hungry Horse and then turning round to drive all the way back to Brum!!!!

Got a few bargains at Cheshire Oaks to compensate.

DH couldn't understand why I was so restrained, but we have had a letter from Tax Credits. (I hid it from DH as didn't want to spoil Fathers Day Weekend). This is the end of a long dispute, but looks like we will have to repay thousands. (My dispute being that I agree we owe them money, but I think their calculation is wrong). Unfortunately, I cannot convince them to recalculate. We have not had all that money, but they have all the power, so we just have to pay.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Meanwhile, better get Ebaying.

Sorry to hear that your trip didn't go to plan. On the plus side, you have saved the water jets on your car being destroyed by baboons :D Mine always have when I've been there :rotfl::rotfl:

As regards your Tax Credits. If your dispute is simply that you disagree with what they are saying was overpaid, it should be possible for you to show them where there calculations are wrong.
First you need to ask HMRC for a detailed breakdown of where the overpayment occurred for each year, with figures. They have a duty to supply this.

You then need to Apply to their data controller for a subject access request (google template letters) make sure you ask them to include all correspondence, electronic records and copies of telephone calls. Include a PO/cheque for £10 (Im pretty sure HMRC will return this uncashed, but they are legally bound to supply what you asked for if you provide the required payment)

If you don't have bank statements available, do the same with your bank (it's the cheapest way to receive a large number of statements)

There will be a daunting amount of paper to wade through but it should be possible to find the discrepancy. You could ask the CAB or welfare rights for help if you're struggling.

The thing with speaking to someone from HMRC is that they will use the calculations they have (which you believe to be wrong) and they will arrive at the same answer because that's how they work :(

    HTH some and good luck

    Hi FC

It was a quiet night shift you posted two in row.:rotfl:

Sorry Don't remember the sweets but don't follow football.

My GD who is 5 went to see her Mums friend leaving for the church to be married yesterday, They had a "scramble" now that brought memories. (Bride's father throwing coppers to the kids who had come to wish her well.:T)

No idea if they had something similar down south but was it was pretty much outlawed many years ago as the cars could be chipped by the falling coins. The wee one came away £9.00 richer Take it not many children about. It was a great way to supplement your pocket money back then

No, they don't have scrambles here, or scatters as I knew them. Another thing that seems to be alien here is putting silver in new born babies prams. Years back when I lived further down south, I put a 50p in someone's pram and the mother looked at me like I'd tried to steal her baby  :rotfl:

Do people still do that. I've never dared since! :o

Not giving specific figure as will probably identify where in the country I am;) but I can tell you I'm in one of the lower cost places at the moment. Definitely - the price has gone up today, Saturday, precisely to charge more as people working all week fill up at the weekend. It's blatant profiteering (which is precisely what a commercial business exists to do, make a profit). I should have got the petrol from M yesterday but, unfortunately, omitted to do so (and wasn't in right part of city yesterday anyway).

But making a (fair) profit is very different to profiteering.

I am sure the TE down the road from me has on more than one occasion been 1p more expensive in the evening (when people have more time to fill up after work) than in the morning.

    All caught up.

My guests have left and it's back to business as usual.

Lovely to see you posting Logie. I noticed a couple of photos on my FB newsfeed from your hols. You look FAB!

I get mixed emotions on Father's Day as well :( I miss mine so much. Then the kids get up and I'm reminded how lucky they are still to have theirs :A

Thanks for the tips mhoc will pass them on. Unfortunately student digs are not without their crumbs. :(

Right messy boogers they are, the students not the slugs.

Floors are the worst. Even with an empty nest now our floors - mixture of carpet and laminates still need vaccuming and dustpanning at least once a day -kitchen over and over again. So 4 students would never keep up with the floor mess problem :D
