  • And a quick update from me... had the in house DCA from DH's college course funders call me today and get all high and mighty about the payment due 28th July. It's been with them for well over a year when I forgot about giving them new debit card details after mine was stolen and they didn't bother to get in touch for 6 months (all pre-LBM when I suffered from Ostrich Syndrome ;))

Well, I put his snooty attitude down! I did pay it yesterday, via faster payment. I even know what time. The little swine virtually accused me of lying! I told him I'd hold while he checked their banking system as the payment obviously hadn't been applied to the account. He came back very sheepishly admitting I was correct and muttered an apology. I went on to bombard him with questions.

It felt sooooooooooo good to have the moral high ground ;) I think it's the first time in forever I've been able to do this and if he hadn't been such a little !!!! I'd have been much nicer but TBH he deserved it!

Three more payments and I'll be rid of them for good and their crappy college course that is totally irrelevant to that industry and massively overpriced!

In the meantime, here is a pic of Puzz which I snapped while she wasn't looking... Happy birthday Puzz! xxx

GUO - sorry to hear about the car, obviously the brakes need a trained someone but re headlights can you get some off ebay, might save a few quid?

MB sorry to hear that, but Fuzz gives great advice. My job has a clause now which said I can opt out of certain elements of I need to (because of my &&*** back ). They also provide me with the option of sitting or standing depending what currently hurts more.

Dunno why people have to give you a hard time when you come back from sick...odd ....

Kate F, clarity is amazing when you can say 'well actually I paid you already' good for you :D

SOTD you are doing great, I sooo recognise the jail thoughts, it does get better I promise.

Loubylou - basically at the moment there are no hard and fast rules, so each organisation makes it own up. This is one of the reasons maybe self managed might be better in some circumstances. Whatever you do though, don't go to a fee paying provider, they are no better than the free ones, no matter what they tell you.

Suseka - worrying times, I hope sisters ops are a success and allow her to recover easily. Good news on the money-making though:)

Puzz  Happy Birthday, hope you have had a lovely day.

Good night everyone, tough day tomorrow as representing someone in case which could lead to dismissal :(

  • Hi,

Just thought I'd pop back in again as I could do with a bit of advice. I'll try not to start a massive debate this time... :o

Long story short, StepChange have decided to cancel my plan with them as I didn't complete my review on time. Six of one and half a dozen of the other, I should've phoned them to let them know that I wouldn't be able to complete it this month as the council are dragging their heels with regards to how much council tax they're charging me so I didn't have all the figures to give StepChange. However, they sent me the letter saying that I needed to review this month a month early and when I spoke to them on the phone after I got that letter, they said just to ring up and review whenever I have the right figures. So the letter saying my plan was cancelled came as somewhat of a surprise.

So, I'm considering going self managed. The pros being that I'd have control over my payment amount and the categories on my budget (I'm self employed so my income varies from month to month and I have business expenses that are hard to fit into existing budget categories). The cons however being that I have mental health issues that only leave me with so much energy in a day and I'm struggling to keep up with a lot of the tasks I've set myself at the moment. I'm 99.9% sure that I'm going to go for self managed as the NEDCAB resources look like that make it really simple and a lot of my problem sometimes can be that I don't do enough in a day and so end up with less and less energy from not being in the habit of getting a lot done. I was just wondering if anyone else on here has any experience of being self managed though and could give me some advice.

HR (most if them) are a bit like creditors. They try and frighten you as to what may happen, what could happen. If you know your rights they get in a proper panic and have to back off and make adjustments. I get proper job satisfaction when they want to fire someone for being genuinely ill and I fire off a letter to them with medical evidence telling them to treat people with respect or the Fuzz will get nasty.

If any of my mates on here has occ health trouble at work, drop me a line and we'll sort it out. Too many people suffer from work stress as a result of Human Resources being ignorant and ill informed.

    Rant over, bed x

I never thought of it that way but you're spot on Fuzzy. I've had to really fight my corner on a couple of issues with our HR dept - getting a straight answer is harder than getting past a GP receptionist at times! But if you know your rights and speak confidently (no matter how much your legs are shaking ;)) they invariably back down. We have a special name for the HR helpline which I won't share in polite company ;)

Sometimes feels like they are lions picking the weak ones off the herd. I understand the need for the job but not the need for the blanket, zero tolerance attitude when it's very clear that people are individuals and can't be put in a box according to condition and treated according to what the text book says.

  • Hi all. I've been avidly reading this thread for a couple of months now and have taken the plunge. I've realised I can't carry on and have completed the SC paperwork and am posting it this morning. I've done letters to all my creditors explaining that I'm starting the plan. On the one hand I'm terrified I've messed up hugely but on the other am glad to be sorting put the mess. Thanks for all the support and advice from this thread - it really is great.

Hello ghostmadlittlemiss. Sorry to hear about your situation.
I recently went self managed. Got a notebook, dedicated a page to each creditor, got contact details for each, wrote them in the book, as well as balances from them, rang them all and asked for up to date balances and checked they would be happy to take payments directly from me, agreed reduced amounts (based on previous dmp figures from when I was in payplan dmp) asked what number to call and what date of the month, asked them to make note of change from payplan to me. All paperwork and statement dates are in my calendar so I know when the interest has been applied and the correct figure for that month is available. I am only in month two but feeling confident. I would say you need to be really organised and be on time with payments etc. So far so good though.
