Thank you for putting my mind at rest about my first DCA! I really appreciate it. :)

Things were really quiet on the DMP front until now. As long as I keep paying then things will be Ok. I've already paid more off than I ever would have in the "bad old days".

Who though DMP would make us happy? Been my saving grace :j

My first payment was 1st March so I'm still in the early stages. Hopefully this kind of thing is normal at this stage.
. Scary letters but actually I find that many of the creditors apologise for being forced to use the scary terminology. (It's a legal thing), mostly the scary letters are aimed at the non-payers rather than the trying-to-payers, but if we want defaults, it's a price we have to pay, if you'll pardon the analogy.

People! It's happened. I don't know if the reply was a reply to my first letter as I sent it to 3 recipients, or if it was a super quick response to my letter sent on Monday, but......

LLOYDS BANK LOAN IS NOW INTEREST FREEEEEEE!!!!! BOOOOM!!

Right letter they've sent me. It' getting laminated. Debt to be sent to recoveries. Default applied and back dated to January. All interest since January refunded (latest applied today funnily enough), and formal confirmation to be sent from recoveries next week.

Oh, and they are going to refund my call charges for the awful 1 hour call and give me £50 for upsetting me when I ring the guy to accept said token gesture.

Lock stock and barrel. This means if they don't default the CC and OD I can use the thing about debt from one creditor being treat the same to get actual defaults ha!! Will only be BC that haven't in the next few months at this rate.

All is good in my DMP world right now. Keep up all your own good work out there. You've all helped me out so much and I'll endeavor to do the same!

Well done, really pleased for you.:T:T:T Ours is supposedly on its way to recoveries debt, although I was told a couple of weeks ago, that it was still in the process as these things "take a while"...LOL. They didn't mention default to me though. Does Recoveries dept automatically mean default? I should write to them again as still not had it in writing from them....and still waiting for a reply to my letter re OH's CC as well.

Hi, thank you! I'm not sure if recoveries means default. There is logic in suggesting it should though! Recoveries means get the money back because the agreements been binned, if you think about it.

I'd write them, reference your rather more successful call and throw in a reminder of the lending code stuff in suggesting that you hope you were not fobbed off. Emphasize they should not ask you to call them again Get it in writing. It all takes time. Remember I've just been charged interest 2 days after the date mark on their letter... I have it in writing though so job done! Should think you'll be ok even if you don't write and end up getting charged one more round of interest before it's all sorted, but you should go for a refund from point of initial token payments given my result.

Hello, I'm the one seeking reassurance. Hopefully talking on this thread will help, seeing everyone's positivity in this whole process is certainly helpful!

    Hi JOjo,

Welcome to the thread, I saw on you other post that you've had quite a weep, it's ok, quite normal, and probably you felt better afterwards?

It's a really scary time when you start facing up to the debt issues in your life. Debt is often linked to many other unhappy life challenges, illness, separation, job changes etc, although sometimes it's happier things like maternity leave and studentdom, and tackling the debts is often just one aspect of making changes, so it's huge.

If you get time have a good read through the thread, you'll find loads of advice and opinions but we don't judge on here, how we got here is less important than how we get to DFD (debt freedom date).

My main tip would be, don't cut your SC budget so tight you don't have any wiggle room, being able to buy the odd coffee out or have enough fuel for a day to visit friends is important to me, and has helped me get through so far.

Yes, good tip. I will need to go back through it at some point, as I based spending on what I spend now. i.e put 0 for haircut as I've not had one in months, likewise for entertainment and clothes. Can't remember the last clothing I bought from a proper shop, all my clothes are charity shop finds! Fuel money to see friends is another point; we've been making excuses to not attend events because we simply can't afford it!

Perhaps the DMP will actually make it possible to do these sorts of things again.

How easy is it to adjust the entries on StepChange?

Hi jojo and welcome to the best thread on mse. If you have already submitted the application with your budget and proposed payment to sc, then you will probably need to call them to change it. Many of us have lunch at work, dry cleaning, smoking etc. A dmp can be for a long time, I am taking the scenic route as I also wish to live a little and pay the debt back over a longer term.
Good luck and well done for getting started.
