So, tonight, I faced up to it all and I signed up for a debt management plan with StepChange.
Following the advice on MSE for debt management, I thought I would stop lurking, and share.
I don't know what I expect from doing this, but, a few words from people who are in the same boat and doing ok might give me some hope.
I'm feeling quite low at the moment... I have no family for support and my partner is currently suffering a bad depressive episode, (diagnosed depression, on medication) so the support he can offer at the moment isn't exactly great!

Welcome.
Plenty of support on here if you need it. A DMP isn't as scary a prospect as it may seem.
Also there is the DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 10 where you can ask for help, vent or just chat.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Welcome Jojo
I'm a fairly new DMPer and DFW but can honestly say it's the best decision I've ever made.
The virtual friends you will find on this forum, and particularly the DMP Mutual Support thread are amazing and very quickly become indispensable to you.
Don't panic, take each day as it comes and deal with that day's issues. Ask for support and advice when you need it, pop in just for a chat and reassurance when you need - everyone is in the same boat; just a different stages of the journey. Many inspiring journeys on here and some diaries are well worth reading and subscribing to.
Looking forward to getting to know youDFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -

Thank you, you lovely, lovely people. I won't fib, just knowing that a few people are listening to me has made me blub uncontrollably! Not sure why, is it relief? Is it just emotions I've bottled up for months?
Sorry if I posted in the wrong area, I've bookmarked the DMP thread and will lurk over there from now on0 -
DMP thread is just part of this board. The whole DFW board is for help and support, so you were in no way in the wrong place.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

welcome welcome! blubbing entirely acceptable... good for you I think! I know you've joined the other thread just wanted to say hello here as well.Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500
Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
I have been in the same boat as you re depressed partner for around 10 years, when he became ill we had a lot of debt (26,000 is) but through a lot of hard work we are now okay! I had to take responsibility for all things financial as he couldn't cope (although he managed to spend it okay!!)
I haven't really got any strongly fantastic advice for you except to send hugs and to say that you are not alone!
One thing that made a huge difference to me was to focus on the little things in our relationship that weren't affected by the debt. A hug is free, a smile cost nothing, making your partner a cuppa is cheap and the little things are the glue that has held our relationship together through some very black days

good luckGo hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last0 -
Just wanted to say hello! :hello:
I did a DMP with Step Change too. It was daunting to start with but was the best thing I've ever done. With their support and this great forum, I felt empowered and was no longer scared of my creditors. So when any issues arose, I was able to calmly deal with them rather than stick my head in the sand.
As others have said, just ask if you need help as someone will know the answer. And if you're having a bad day and just want to share things, that's fine too!
Good luck!Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.
Dealt with my debt through a Step Change (CCCS) DMP.

Hi all
Ive just joined as i was doing PPi claims, and thought i would flick through the DMP threads and was surprised to see so many people who have been in the same situation as myself, I think if i didnt have a DMP with the stepchange charity (CCCS) back in 2004 i think i would have topped myself.... thanks to these wonderful people i got to grips with the mountain of debt and im just a few years away from being debt free. I started with £121000 (had a wife with credit cards!! :0( ) of unsecured debt and now sitting with £9000 and smashing my way through that. Ive learnt to hate the banks and manage money in a whole better way than i did then. So if you feel your worried or think that you cant cope then dig deep, be strong and rise above it.
Surprisingly i still have a very good credit rating!!..lol
If anybody needs any advice or support then id be only too glad to help,0
