    Hello again,

I am in the process of setting up my DMP pay plan are contacting my creditors, i have been asking a lot of questions since signing up to the thread 2 days ago (thank you for your responses). I am planning to sign up to noodle and check my credit report, something that i have never done and to be honest i am sweating over slightly!

I havent defaulted on any payments before going into the DMP, this month while pay plan are in talks with my creditors i will be making token payments of 5 pounds to each one but all in all by august i will start making my pay plan payments.

i have seen mixed things regarding credit files being marked with AP and Default, some posts have basically said that it is best not to pay anything until you get a default because if you are able to pay a decent amount (we will be paying 570) you will get an AP on your file instead. We do have a home to protect so i probably want to avoid ccj's etc which i guess would be more likely if i just stopped paying but at the same time i am concerned that these AP's stay on your file for 6 years after its settled.

One poster said that they complained to the FOS and she was told that an AP looks better on your credit file than nothing at all???

My question is am i doing the right thing in setting up the DMP so soon or should i have offered token payments for a while to get a default and is an AP worse to have on your file than a default? I may be too late as pay plan wouldn't take kindly to me putting things on hold at this point!

Thank you in advance, any advice would be great!

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I will contact StepChange on Monday as soon as i get the opportunity and inform them about the rejection, i only found out yesterday and i have been epically busy at work today.

Should i be worried about the companies that have yet to acknowledge the DMP?

They will have payments due in within the next few days.

I just need to sort out this wage issue that could cause some dramas, which can be read about on my other post, (Cant post links yet)

Again, thanks for the advice and support!

    Hi,
Unfortunately you can't depict what the creditors will do. Unlike others Halifax have sold me and very early on, but others are still fighting.. I did 3 months token payments, I think each case is treated on an individual basis and you can't assume it will be the same for you. The time for fighting ap's for defaults is after the dmp has been up and running for awhile. My goal is to be debt free, I don't really care about my credit file as I never want credit again..

  • Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd pop in and say hello as I've been lurking on here for a little while. I've just started my DMP with StepChange, my first payment went out earlier this month and my God, is it quiet! After a year of phone calls off my various creditors (I had a nervous breakdown and disappeared off the map for awhile. I've been better for a while but have only recently started tackling my debts), the phone has barely rung at all since I started. It's bliss.

I've also recently started working for myself and am loving the freedom. I sell cleaning products to businesses so I have some admin work at home and some appointments with businesses to give them samples of the products. So it's a nice mix of both worlds. The only problem at the moment is that I don't have a car so I'm having to do all the sample deliveries by bus. I live in Bath though which has quite a regular bus service to most places so it could be worse.

Anyway, sorry for the marathon post, just thought I'd join the thread as it looks like it'll be quite useful. :)

Thank you puzzcat, I will just wait and see what happens then, thank you for the reply. I agree my goal is also to be debt free the only reason for my concern about my credit rating is that we would really like to move house at some point in the future as we have two small children who currently share a bedroom but we won't be able to do this until our credit rating is clear again :) We are definately not looking to take out credit cards or loans ever again :)

    Morning Wolves,

Debt is debt is debt... I think it effects bankruptcy (or it used to I think) but doesn't impact a DMP.

The main thing is that you've stepped up and owned up to having a problem and you're doing something about it which takes a lot of guts to do so good for you

You've not mentioned where you're gambling but what you need to do ASAP is start blocking any software from running on your computer, do self exclusion at the bookies and casinos you use (you'll need 2x passport size pics for each chain, don't go in with money as it's free to self exclude so leave your wallet at home) and contact GAMCARE who will be able to listen to you and offer a bit of guidance as well as put you in touch with meetings or possibly even 1:1 counselling in your area.

Now those debts of yours... Do you really only have debts with the four creditors mentioned or do you also have any small "in control" PDL's or phone contracts, etc? If you have read through the whole thread then you'll have seen that we don't judge here ;)
