DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 10

Happy Christmas everyone :xmassign:
Well part 1 of my job plan is in place and I have been paid my undue but gratefully received redundancy. So my Christmas present to myself was to pay off my penultimate debt and get down to just Lloyds TSB and we are now over 90% paid off :j
We also have the car back and running
I can't wait to be debt free but will never lose the life lessons I have learned over the last 34 months. It's still so good to look at everything we have for Christmas and know it was budgeted for and is all paid in full. This time 3 years ago, I had sold my dead mum's jewellery to pay for Christmas and was still absolutely dreading the January credit card bills which I knew we simply could not pay. I hadn't even heard of a DMP and really thought there was no way out of the mess we found ourselves in, the debt would follow us into retirement and death. Via google and links, I found this forum and the predecessor to this thread and the rest, as they say, is history!
So it's Christmas Eve, which means there are 7 days debt busting left this year and then a whole new year ahead of us. My second favourite thread on this forum is Payment a Day aka PAD:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4936815
From the day I was introduced to it, 2 and a half years ago, I have made a payment literally every single day. It doesn't matter if it's to a debt or to emergency savings; it doesn't matter if it's pennies or a thousand pounds; it doesn't matter if you miss a day or a week or months. Like this thread, it is non-judgemental and supportive, I really can't recommend it highly enough.
OK that's TTFTM's tip for the year and almost enough ramble from me :rotfl:
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, but if yours is like mine was 3 years ago, or you are just starting out on the DMP journey and things look a bit bleak at the moment, there will be people here and on the main DFW forum here to advise, help, offer experience and above all support you. That's what this is all about.

Merry Christmas to one and all.
This will be my first Christmas without any debt since I was 18 - 42 years ago. But I can say that it won't be my last.
It's our family Christmas dinner today, the turkey is in the oven - can't do anything else until Waitrose deliver it. Tomorrow, I think, it's sausages :rotfl:

TTFTM you are always informative and inspirational, your positivity in the face of setbacks such as redundancy is amazing, I wish you a wonderful Christmas and I'm such that last 10% will vanish in no time at all.
i recognise myself in some of your experiences, and I'm sure many others do too.
My Christmas wish to you all (including you lurkers:T) is that you find the help you need to make you life better than just bearable and you can find the way to a life free of debtdom chains.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!
I hope you're all having a wonderful day filled with food and laughter!
I didn't get the job unfortunately, but I was up against my old manager ha! Apparently I made it such a hard decision that they had to base it purely on amount of experience, thus she got it. I was very disappointed but it's given me more confidence and they said if another job was to come up they would want to speak to me about it.
In DMP news, I've had a text message off BC saying my account is on hold pending further information from SC, and the same in letter format from MBNA. Just waiting on Halidax now.
I paid my car insurance up front for next year, which is going to save me £65 a month which will be getting saved. Also, I've just done a budget check (very Christmassy, I know!), and after all my bills and my first SC payment has gone out, I will still have around £200 leftover!! Along with the fact christmas was all paid for with cash and not credit, this is unheard of!!! I'm thinking an on,ine sales shop to try and get some bargains for birthdays/ next Christmas, and then I'll save the rest in my new emergency pot.
I'm sitting on the sofa now under a fleecy blanket with the Christmas lights on waiting for my man to come in from a 12 hour shift so we can exchange our gifts, and I have to say I'm feeling rather pleased with myselfLBM 14th November 2014 - Total debt £8,852.54
