Total cost for both of our train season tickets would be £5920 pa, then we would need bus fares on top of that at approximately £1232 pa for both of us, so we are up to £7152 pa. Oh and then there is the issue that sometimes I need to be in work before the bus can get me to the train station. I think I'll have to stick with the car, despite its money eating abilities!

Also need to get to work before public transport is running, so when the car is in the garage have the additional cost of hiring one.
My car emergency fund is running on empty hopefully a bit of overtime will cover road tax end of Jan.

Indeed it is! A very Merry Christmas everyone. I am hoping this will be my last Christmas on a DMP. :j

Cars....these must cause us the most stress on a dmp, no matter how big the emergency fund! This year I have had exhaust, 2 tyres, brake pads, windscreen wipers and a new clutch...and of course mot which never comes in at double figures..... I also still have a funny noise in reverse...that will have to wait.....car tax is due this month and then car fund pot will be empty...
Onwards and upwards........
Ha ha, not funny but didn't realise this was a regular DMP problem. My car had the odd thing. Roll bars, wheel bearings, tyres, the inevitable happened last month. The clutch went. Crawling uphill at 20mph. Reputable local garage quote £350- £380. Came out as £447. for the fisrt had to request lower DMP payment for 1 month. Now prob need another new wheel bearing as is making a racket. Friends and coĺleagues dont know i'm on a DMP. So usual comments of ' throwing good money after bad,''might as well get a nearly new!!! ' Yes one day.

Hopefully this will be our last Christmas in debt too, well if all goes to plan with job. I really am determined to be debt free by the time we go on holiday on 21st July but anything earlier will be a bonus :j

Yeah :j:j Happy Dance to all those hoping to finish their DMP by next CHristmas :T:T
Can you blimmin believe it, dropping presents off at a friends house yesterday and noticed the car wouldn't lock on the remote so I turned key, went off to do jobs, came back and then it wouldn't start :eek: Fortunately the one thing the non-paying lodger pays for is breakdown cover, so I rang the very nice man, I was so lucky, they answered in 10 secs and the very nice man appeared in less than 5 mins:D:D
I started to panic a bit when he looked and started mentioning 'fuel pump' but then he wiggled a few things and pressed a few buttons on the magic gadget they carry and whooosh life was restored(big sigh of relief, not only financial but could I managed without the car over Christmas?). i usually treat myself to a little summat at Christmas, but I'm going to treat that as my pressie this year - phew
So fingers crossed it was a one off .
Hope Santa brings lovely things to all hard pressed DMPers :TDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Good Morning all
Hugs for those with car woes. I hope they get sorted without too much ado. I had to do reduced DMP payment twice. The second time it happened SC did a budget review and changed my allowances. Also that time I was more streetwise as I knew the reduction may kick off some noise with the preditors I used the opportunity to point out it was further proof I was still in financial hardship and they should reduce/freeze interest. So bizarre as it may sound it sort of did me a favour.
I would like to echo the Christmas well wishes to the thread. I hope everyone enjoys the festivities.
Great to see people ticking off another Xmas and be closer to their DFD. Really encouraging to know we will be celebrating more releases in the next year
I can hardly believe after four Xmas on the DMP this is my first debt free one. I couldn't have done it without the support from everyone here so a big thank you. It's nice to have freedom to exercise choice but I have still planned and sought bargains and value for money thanks to my DMP experience.
Merry Christmas from HH x0
