Is it worth asking for the AP markers to be removed and a default applied instead or is it likely to prompt them to start applying interest again?
Hi Ellie
I'd let sleeping dogs lie for now. My view is do it around or just after the end of your DMP
Fingers crossed

Thanks everyone for your replies Re Barclaycard. Does sound like they are having a bit of a moment! I suppose a lot of us started our DMPs around this time - with Christmas coming and having no money to pay for it, so lots of us are in the same "12 month" plan thing? Anyhow I will be calling them today so I'll let you know how I get on. What is so annoying is how they seem to treat everyone differently!

Don't get me started :0
Scotland are light years ahead of us here with the DAS.

I'd be minded to agree with this - I am fortunately pretty much at the point where I can clear the remaining balance so had nothing to lose - I just wanted it off my credit file, as if a default had been applied in line with my others it would have dropped off by now. I'd leave it a bit until you're nearer the end of your DMP - particularly if that date is more than six years from when the AP markers started/the account unofficially defaulted.
I have mixed views on BC and Barclays in general. I sued Barclays in 2006 for bank charges (one of the early adopters!) and won £2,800 off them for my current account - they settled two hours before the court case was due to be heard. But within a couple of months they took me to court over my current account OD and two loan defaults - even though I'd started my DMP - which at the time I thought was just done out of pure vindictiveness over the bank charges!
Since then, when I've spoken to BC they've been very nice and generally helpful (be nice to them - it works wonders), and the same for Barclays - I put in three PPI complaints on 1 November this year, and they sent a cheque for the first uphold on 28 November, and told me that the other two have been upheld and are in calculation stage. By far the most efficient and swift of all the PPI complaints I've put in. I can't fault them on that front.0 -

Hi HH,
Yes, those were my thoughts too. Both my OH and myself had a BC and for OH it is his highest debt.
I think that I will leave things alone for now.;)
Thanks

Thanks for the advice Sentientpoet - I have a little over 2 years left on my DMP so will leave alone for now.

I thought the same. I soon as I saw the post thought oooooh this time next year you will be able to say only one more to go
Old habits die hard. Am back to milestones and counting down. Am saving to decorate and refresh the home and want to be overpaying the mortgage by the summer so I can work towards the option of retiring early. Fingers crossed I can keep many of the good habits and benefit from the experience, skills and knowledge the DMP has afforded me.
Onwards and upwards everyone. Everyday is a step closer to our targets.

Morning HH & Sazzie,
Yes, I love my milestones - they help to keep me on track;)
As time passes I seem to hit each one in no time at all.
We've picked up some great habits along the way HH and I'm sure that they will stay with us for life.
Take care

Fab post HH. I have certainly learnt a lot from my DMP too. It's ticking along and I have been able to build up a decent emergency fund too now. I'm torn between keeping it for the 'just in case scenario' especially with the cars being a bit old and knackered, or paying off a huge chunk of my Halifax card. I would love to see that balance go down but I have to be sensible!
Without an emergency fund and an unexpected big bill I would have to reduce my payments, and it would be a major pain in the back side to have to make reduced payments to my creditors now that I am self managed.
I am a bit disappointed with my progress though. Originally my DMP was set to finish in Oct 15, but with a minimal pay rise this year and increases in my rent, electricity payments and I am now contributing towards a company pension, I am about £140 a month worse off, which means probably another couple of months added onto that date now:(DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421
