hello - great progress people - have just popped in to update my signature (woowoo). Not been online much recently due to one thing and another. I hav removed my deadline of wanting to be DF by this time next year as it feels like too much pressure. I wanted to be under 10k by christmas this year and that's disappointing too. Life has been getting in the way of my plans a bit recently (car, vets, and assorted other things) and while I am still making progress it's not as fast as i'd like and that has brought back some of the old anxiousness and associated behaviour of wanting to shove my head back in the sand. Unhelpful thoughts like 'oh well i'm not going to make it by my deadline so screw the whole thing' and have fallen off the ynab wagon. So am getting myself together and having a word with myself. I have removed the deadline, given myself a little flex in my budget and am still making progress. Just goes to show you can't ever take your eye off the prize. Oh and hellifax have promised me a default for the new year on one account (a relatively small balance) but still won't accept I am experiencing hardship on my massive cc account with them so haven't stopped or reduced interest. ....Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500
Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -

Hi Karen
Sounds like you have done really well.
Try not to be so hard on yourself. It's important to look at how much you have achieved and not just how much you still have to face.
Takes a while to get into realistic goal setting and as you say life has a habit of popping challenges up. I'm still learning and can change my mind on issues. I know for sure that without some focus and deadline I often don't achieve and fritter time or money without realising the benefit. When I set targets that are too tough it puts me down as it doesn't give the buzz of something that you achieve. Like most things it's individual and balance is the key. Bit by bit with clear short term milestones to work towards and celebrate win the day for me
Good luck

After a jittery week or two trying to work out if we would be better off fighting our battles ourselves checking my BC account this morning has shocked me in the two months we have been making SC payments we have acquired £81 in charges and late payment fees on further checking SC are paying a catalogue company more per month even though the debt has been sold to a DC so no interest, than BC credit card with a larger total... Baffling!!! and as we are really only paying 7 creditors in total I think I can manage this alone as we don't have council tax payments for Feb and March we can throw this at CC payments and if we really knuckle down we can clear at least one credit card by Feb and keep up all other payments with token payments to likes of Argws and Maris0ta, the Barclays loan will need a little research on how much a token payment is on £5600?? .. We have 2 little debts of £140 and £160 which can also have token payments for time being, gawddd I am so glad I checked the account.Weightloss -36.5lb/64lb.

Well its been just over a week since creditors informed of DMP with Stepchange. Received 2 letters today from both Halifax and Nationwide. Both have accepted plan and freezed interest which is great, Halifax for 6 months then review and Nationwide for 12 months. The only thing I'm concerned about is payment due date? Whilst on DMP do all creditors request original payment dates as letters from above state this? First Payment to Stepchange is due on the 1st January?0

I can't remember how it worked when I first set up my DMP, but through Payplan the creditors agreed to the payment and a set date in the month (around the 12th or 15th I think) which was set up by Payplan - allows time for my money to reach the DMP, and then for them to distribute it.
I've never had a problem from creditors and the new payment date, except occasionally when my payment to Payplan has been delayed and therefore the creditor payment has been later than planned. Even then, it hasn't really affected the ongoing management or creditor agreement. You should be fine - but if any creditors grumble just notify SC or forward the correspondence to SC. Once it drops into the regular monthly rhythm it will all settle down pretty quickly.0 -
Sc pay creditors on the 25th of each month, creditors surely know this but do like to be awkward! I rang any that mentioned a different due date, all were fine but you may find you have to reiterate it more than once for the more dense among them! Sc do inform them of this as well so they can't really not know!!

Just checked Stepchange website. Payments are made 1st and 10th of each month and creditors payed 25th of each month. Both Halifax and Nationwide state payment to be received on statement date which is 15th and 20th. Hopefully they will be Ok with getting payed 25th?
Just waiting for 8 other creditors to acknowledge dmp?0 -

You might need to make a token payment, £1 is usual, to cover the time until the SC payment arrives, then call them and ask them to change the payment date to 25th and they should get the hang of it.
You may not get acknowledgement from other creditors, although some are getting better at it. If you hear nothing, assume its OK. Even if some don't accept it, the SC advice is carry on as if the had accepted and it will all be OK.
One of the things I love about this thread is that once the DMP has started the posts tend to drop off a bit, meaning the DMP is running well and settled down, and yet folk know we are here if needed.
Karen, I agree with HH give yourself a break, especially this time of year, its hard ! ! Targets for me need to be motivational but achievable as I give up easily.
Sweet dreams everyone.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
