    Morning all!

Wow, I don't post on the thread for a couple of days and so many new people have turned up! Should I be offended? I know I smell but it's only my feet ;)

Anyway... Puzz, in the end I got a Liger but I had to send it back because they accidentally sent me a Zedonk!!!! You'd think they'd know the difference by now... Tsk, can't trust anyone to do anything right ;) LOL

Aaaaanyway, moving on :) some great advice offered as per usual :) but the one thing I wanted to mention is that SC have a "special relationship" with Barclays so if you have debts with them then you can open a new account and they won't rob your new account - it's safe :) I have an overdraft with them from my old account and a Barclaycard and they've not once taken anything out to recover against my debt...

When I signed up to my DMP there was a letter about this in the pack, I even spoke to SC and they told me the agreement had been in place for years :) I wouldn't do it with any other bank though ;)

In other related news, I've accepted the offer from Cheque Centre and am just awaiting a cheque :) HURRAH!!!!

    Cya'll laters!

Hi. Can anyone help me. I'm in the process of organising a DMP wit SC. I applied to the cooperative for a basic current account and they have refused. I'm really confused as I thought they wouldn't do a credit check (and they have) and that they would approve it. Can anyone offer any advice as I can't go forward with the DMP if I can't get a basic account to have my wages paid into.

Hi all. New to the forum and embarking on the DMP journey. Sent off my pack to stepchange and waiting to hear back about the set up. Hoping I would be able to get some support here! Feeling a bit scared but almost liberated after so long.

Yay! Have just got a basic account from nationwide! This is my first step to sorting out my debts. I know it won't be easy but I will get there!

Hello Ash and Molkoo, Welcome to the best thread on the boards.
Ash glad you got your account sorted, i also went with nationwide as my mortgage is with them and I think they are fab... I have online banking and lots of little savings accounts set up against my current account, makes budgetting easier. I have accounts for birthdays, christmas, car, emergency fund etc. Hopefully your new account will do the same.

As said by all the other wonderful peeps on here, the hardest bit is the start up, you will then wonder what you were worrying about. Please pop in anytime and ask questions, update us on how your doing or just for a general chat or hug if needed.

I would also recommend if you haven't already done it, to try and read back over the previous thread 9. Lots of information, and many answers to questions you may not yet have asked or even thought about.

Good luck with your start ups.

    So this is what I ordered;

    But this is what I got;

    zedonk-trimmed.jpg

A Ligon is a Lion/Tiger cross which is huge and ferocious and loves a belly rub while a Zedonk is a Zebra/Donkey cross does ballet in it's fancy leggings and eats babies (if they pull it's ears) - waaaaaay too scary for me ;)

    Hello
Just wanted to say thank you and hello. I posted on here about a year ago having just taken the first steps towards a dmp with pp and got some encouragement from people on here. I am now a year in and sleeping better than I have for years and looking forward to a debt free life. I am gutted I waited so long and can honestly say it has saved my life. It's hard living month to month and I still have a way to go but I do know even on the bad days that I am getting there.

Most of the creditors have reduced but not frozen interest which is disappointing but can't be avoided I guess and I am grateful they have reduced it at least - apart from Halifax who take half of my payment to them every month in interest. I have written to them repeatedly but no response other than to add default charges and letter writing charges on to my debt to them. After researching, I made a complaint via the FOS yesterday, so see how that goes.

Anyway - thank you all for existing and making this journey feel less scary and good luck to all of you in the same boat.

    Hi Karen,

Lovely to hear your update and glad its all going well for you. Did you write to the other creditors as well stating complaint with regards to interest being charged? Might be worth a try and then you can set the FOS on them as well... As they say if you don't ask you don't get.... Obviously they are do not have to freeze interest and as you say they have reduced it, but out of my 9 debts only 1 is charging nominal interest and that was after I complained to the FOS about them.

Well done on what you have achieved so far and enjoy the sleeping..

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi gang

Thanks MB for the info on Barclays. I too have a 250 overdraft with then and an 18000 (yes, 18000) credit card with them so when I was offered a basic account with them I was a little wary.

I did set one up as I wanted SOMETHING quickly so I felt I was making some progress and as they wouldn't need to do all the id checks as they've already done them on me, I knew this would be quicker.

But then I was worried about using it!!

You need to cancel CPA with both the bank and the creditor.

I think 3 months of token payments as suggested by Puzz would work perfectly to give you the breathing space to clear Amigo. You can use the SC reference number provided in your token payment letters and tell SC that you are not yet ready to start your DMP but can they keep your details on record for when you are. If you decide to go self managed, you can just tell them then.

Stick around on this thread for advice, help and support. Check out my signature for the mess we were in and you will see how much this works.

Thanks once again for the sound advice, I am forming a plan and getting on with it. God news my new coop account has been opened and I have received the debit card, shame I couldn't redirect this months wages there but I will hopefully be able to transfer funds soon as it goes into my cash card account.

The Wonga CPA is cancelled, I am on with the others and removing any direct debits from my current account etc

I am now ready to start sending token payment letters, looked at the links you provided and can see a template for such a letter. is it advisable to provide a budget statement with this letter then? How much detail is sufficient? Do you need to include all the creditors names and so forth?

I think what I'm going to do is delay the DMP and (concentrate paying off the amigo loan and get some funds behind me) but quote the SC client ref number with these token letters. I'm not sure whether to do the DMP myself yet. Maybe will wait to see what happens.

As for the actual token payments I'm thinking of making these online hopefully where possible. For the loan companies, I would need to get their account details so not sure if that is possible. Although wonga have provided theirs, when I cancelled CPA

Am I correct in assuming these letters should get sent recorded delivery? Is sending token payments online a good idea?

Once again thanks for the advice I really appreciate it, this is an excellent forum, its cleared my head for an action plan for a way out of this mess

    Evening all,

Just a note which Dr H might find useful, have been on DMP for about 18 months now with SC. I have a loan which I did not declare to stepchange, mainly because I got confused and left it off. I have been fortunate enough to earn overtime each month and therefore been able to pay the repayments. It has never been queried by SC or anyone else. Obviously I still pay full interest on the loan but it was at a reasonable rate, in. Fact less than some of my CC are still charging. I know I could have back dated it to SC but it kinda gives me satisfaction that I am paying something off for myself. The loan repayment will complete long before the rest of the DMP.

I don't in any way want to encourage anyone to be less than truthful with SC or anyone else (and I think being honest with partners is a must really), but I just wanted to say it might be doable with amigo in some way. Obviously no guarantees it will work the same way for you though.

    Hope it helps

This thread is hot stuff at the moment, thanks to all who contribute

Thanks sazzie, in all honesty if the loan was personal to me and for some reason I wanted to pay it by myself I would have left it off and risked it, maybe they would come back to me and I would put it on if there was an issue. With it being a guarantor loan and I want to protect the guarantor, I didn't want any risk of guarantor being contacted after the loan had defaulted etc, causing guarantor a load of stress as well. I'm planning on token paying for a few months while I pay the amigo loan off, then going on some sort of DMP. Not looking forward to all the heat I'm going to receive but its got to be done

    Thanks again
