Hi. Can anyone help me. I'm in the process of organising a DMP wit SC. I applied to the cooperative for a basic current account and they have refused. I'm really confused as I thought they wouldn't do a credit check (and they have) and that they would approve it. Can anyone offer any advice as I can't go forward with the DMP if I can't get a basic account to have my wages paid into.

Hi Ash, well I'm not sure. I thought with a basic bank account because you can't get overdrawn there wouldn't be a problem. You could have a look here for info. You could try Barclays Cashcard account instead.

Hi all. New to the forum and embarking on the DMP journey. Sent off my pack to stepchange and waiting to hear back about the set up. Hoping I would be able to get some support here! Feeling a bit scared but almost liberated after so long.

:hello: Welcome Molkoo. Don't be scared it won't be nearly as bad as you have been imagining. Any queries or problems just shout and I am sure someone will have a sensible answer for you as long as you don't ask Monkeyballs. ;)

That's what I thought. I wanted to stay away from barclays as a lot of my debts are with them and thought it w be best to have a fresh start. Any advice very welcome.

I've just been through that palaver. First I went to hsbc who did a credit check even for the basic account so obviously got turned down and had to go elsewhere. Most of the others don't credit check Santander, co op, barclays etc. I went with halifax in the end as was not associated with any of my debts plus you get an electron instead of just a cash card

Oops just read co op checked yours. Seems ridiculous to me.

Thanks - will try some of the others and keep my fingers crossed. It's just disheartening as I thought this would be the easy bit of the process!

Yay! Have just got a basic account from nationwide! This is my first step to sorting out my debts. I know it won't be easy but I will get there!
