Hi
Could i get a little bit of advice please.
I've only just set up my DMP with stepchange, but I've gained a further debt. The debt with SC is £35,000.00, but I now have an extra £1,000.00 with paypal.
How easy is it to add a further debt (will SC be o.k. with this) and does anyone have any experience of having debt with paypal?
thanks in advanceLBM: September 2014
Starting Debt: £36,133.95
Paid off: £3,166.60 (8.76%)
Current Debt: £32,967.35 (87.64%)
Monthly Payment: £375.00

Well after thinking long and hard I've just written off all my letters to my creditors offering token payments, sent my forms off to Stepchange and I feel sick : ( what mess have I got in to...... I hate myself so much for it. Why did I not ask for help from my other half, how did I let it get this bad : ( well nothing I can do about it now. Today marks the start of my debt free journey be it an 8-10 year one at the most but it will be worth it.
Still carrying this all alone bar a few friends knowing so I may need a virtual hug and some advice but I can and I will do this x
Lewpylew - sending a virtual hug :grouphug:Only my hubby and I know about our DMP and that's how it will always be. My Mum would be mortified if she knewShe struggled juggling credit cards etc when I was little - I remember going to the cash points with her when I was about 10 and her drawing out cash from loads of different credit cards to pay off other debts. She told me to promise her I would never get into debt but ashamedly I did, but at least I'm now in control and paying it back.
Lastdayofseptember - congratulations on making that first step calling StepChange. I did the same as Puzz and did the debtremedy tool online and set up the DMP that way. I have since phoned them a few times and they are always so kind and patient. I have often thought that I would like to work for them as I could totally put myself in the shoes of everyone who calls them and would love to help and support others like they have done for me
Moneypit2014 - dn't worry too much about your DFD. As others have said it will come down quicker than you think. Ours is 2029 but hoping to reduce that as soon as possible! I was embarrassed to put the total amount of debt we owe in my signature however the peeps on here are so lovely and non-judgemental that I thought what the heck and added it on!!! Makes it nicer to see when it starts to reduce!
No further news here - everything seems to be ticking along ok at the mo (keeping fingers firmly crossed). The sea seems quite calm for me at the moment on our virtual boat (thank goodness as I get awful sea sickness - I'd better sit at the back of the boat!!!)
On a lighter note - taking the kids to watch the Sooty Show tomorrow - all paid for with actual money and not on credit!! Hurrah!!
Have a great weekend everyone!

And for Moneypit and BDFSH my original DFD was May 2034. By June it had dropped to Dec 2020. Now if this pesky PPI would just clear I'll be able to reduce it further, at the latest it'll be Sept 2019 if not sooner. A whacking 15 years off (all presuming I can get creation to play by the same rules as everyone else)

Yeah, nobody need know your business. Most people have debt and credit cards. Difference is here, we are paying them off, and are better off for it. My friends and family knew I had credit / debt. I told most that I was now concentrating on paying them off, and not building any more. Only later did I concede I was on a 'special plan'.
Once on a DMP you are for the most part better off financially, so that's one up on those still nursing their contracted repayments. And you've made a conscious decision to get it all paid off.
In my opinion it's something to be proud of. 'DMP' doesn't even need to be mentioned.DO NOT PANIC.

Absolutely well put, and great advice too. I also have the, 'we're concentrating on clearing our debts before retiring' line which I use if anyone gets suss when I hesitate before spending. I'm proud of dealing with my debts, but it's no one else's business. You might be surprised who else is in the same position if you ever did mention it!Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Hi Folks,
Can I ask what people would think is a sensible amount to save for a car repair/MOT fund per month?
Again this is something we have only very recently started saving for and unfortunately its going to be way too late to help us this year. Our 15 year old Ford Transit is booked in for the end of the month MOT. If it’s bad we will end up not paying bills to get it fixed.:o We live on a remote Scottish island and public transport is not an option.
More positive news is we are now down to 16 creditors and a tiny drop in the overall debt amount. We settled fully with Budget Insurance for £67.:)
Assuming we can get through this month without a major calamity we are considering raising our DMP payment to shave a few years of our DMP. The ultimate aim is to pay debts in five years.

I'm guessing it's for seized funds from a bad Ebay transaction?
Happened to me in the past when I had already taken the money out. Figured they could go whistle for their money as I'd been ripped off with dodgy paypal account. Well they instantly passed it to a DCA for collection. I wasn't on my DMP at the time, although looking back I wish I was, the debt was 1/3 what it is now back then
However that probably works in your favour if you are adding it to your DMP because the DCA will probably be a lot easier to deal with.
Just ring up Stepchange explain what has happened and they will advise.0
