  • Thanks Kate

At the mooment I am so scared to ring them but I will be doing it today. I am scared they will laugh at me and tell me not to be stupid they can't help me.

I know this probably all sounds so ridiculously stupid which is also why I realised I had to start telling people too as I will make myself ill.

I know part of the reason behind my debt - and it is a reason not an excuse. But Im addressing those problems and wanting so much to show I am in a different place.

When I say that I think do I sound pathetic? I want to be strong and I don't feel strong yet at the same time am not stopping myself from moving forward so i guess I must be getting stronger after all.

I know that sounds like a load of nonsense waffle.
  • And yes you're right I feel like a criminal like I'm going to be locked up, like my Husband will take my son and tell me I'm no good for anyone.

I feel everyone will hate me so much yet I know deep down that I have the nicest of friends and lovely parents - and hopefully an understanding DH. Yes he will be cross and that's ok, I expect that.

I just feel like a disappointment - is that normal?
  • also before I ring them do I need involve my Husband in this? we have sep bank accounts etc

If the debts are solely in your name you can get on with it yourself.

My DMP is self managed but I had long conversations with Step Change in the beginning.

Do not worry about it.....they are so nice you wouldn't believe :)

All the best and let us know how you go on.

    Brogden.
  • yes all in my name.

Thank you so much. I had already started to wrote to my creditors. have written to three already and two have accepted m offers and agreed to stop interest. The third will not accept anything at all - Very catalogue. They told me to ring stepchange actually.

The woman was very nice on the phone in the end and I paid my offer payment there and then but still they will not accept anything.
  • sorry write not wrote am typing hastily
  • You are absolutely, without a doubt, completely normal...or as normal as the rest of us ;) Try to think of this call as similar to having your son. That was scary as hell - because you didn't know what was going to happen, what the reality of the process was and how you'd manage during and after. Look at him now - it's all worked out and is one of the best things you ever did. Facing up to debt is very similar - even down to the sleepless nights and feeling sick at times!

SC won't laugh or tell you it's hopeless. It's NEVER hopeless. There will be a solution and they'll work with you to find the best one for you.

Make the call, it'll be okay (I promise!) then let the emotion and stress out. I cried through the first half of my call to SC, I could barely speak but I came away from that call laughing and slept 12 hours that night for the first time in months.

You have nothing to lose except worry and stress.

Hi lastdayofseptember, congratulations on finding the best thread on mse!

If you don't feel up to calling stepchange at this moment, you can always try out the debt remedy tool on the sc website. I actually set up my dmp this way and didn't speak to sc until a few weeks later with the first of my silly questions...
