Well after thinking long and hard I've just written off all my letters to my creditors offering token payments, sent my forms off to Stepchange and I feel sick : ( what mess have I got in to...... I hate myself so much for it. Why did I not ask for help from my other half, how did I let it get this bad : ( well nothing I can do about it now. Today marks the start of my debt free journey be it an 8-10 year one at the most but it will be worth it.

Still carrying this all alone bar a few friends knowing so I may need a virtual hug and some advice but I can and I will do this x
  • Morning all and welcome lastdayofseptember!

Received a letter this morning saying one of my husband's creditors had rejected the payment offer, so we'll have to see how it goes.

Thinking I might put some figures in my signature.

    Hi lewpylew,

Lots of hugs available here whenever you need one.. Well done on getting started and don't be hating yourself, we have all worn that t-shirt and now you are in the process of doing something to sort the problem out, that deserves a pat on the back.

If it helps none of my friends or family know about my debts.. all 60K of them at the beginning.. even my OH only knows I have debts but not the extent. I may tell people when I've finished my dmp.. or I may not..

    Hi Moneypit,

Don't be too upset by your DFD :) You will not just benefit from improvements in your circumstances but your creditors will get a bit weary after a while and Full & Finals will bring forward your DFD by years!

  • ok spoken to them thank you all so much already - heck I sound like I'm accepting an oscar.

They are sending me the forms so will fill that in next week and sorted out a payment plan with them.

I too cried through most of my conversation and he was brilliant.

I just this second see I got another phone call from very. You know they only let it ring once maybe twice then hang up :/

Hi- I have to admit I changed my number on my Very account to a false one (they wont let you not have a phone number) as they have so many different numbers they use and I have heard they can charge you if you receive a call from them???
These have been the only ones that didnt go for DMP straight away but they have now passed on their collecter- NCO (I think) who seem a lot better and actually reply to emails.

Yeah I am reckoning on them being the only ones although it was them that told me to ring stepchange.

I have removed my landline might change my mob too

They don't even reply to your letters
  • Creation! Again!

Thanks to an allergic reaction at work I left early as I've spent most of the day scratching like a flea infested mongrel (that'll teach me to read ingredients lists!) So antihistamines down the hatch and feeling better already so I called Creation complaints.

Not nearly as lucky as other posters, they're going to investigate and it could take 8 weeks but at least it's logged and in progress. The bloke on the phone was sympathetic, especially when I pointed out that £6 a year off a £2800 balance was going to take 466 years to pay off!

Got a super - nasty letter regarding HSBC credit card where they WILL be sending the boys round too. TBH it looked dodgy and I called the number on it I didn't get the usual automated security questions. The person I spoke to actually yelled at me and swore when I asked for proof that he was from HSBC! So I called their complaints team too. All sorted now, it was from them but a nice lady called Angel apologised profusely, logged that complaint and assured me that as long as I keep paying nothing will happen. She even congratulated me on taking action to tackle my situation.

All in all not a great afternoon (and I'm exhausted) but I'm seriously considering a trip to the pub with DH tonight if I can manage a short nap before I pick up the "dead pony brigade" (yes, it was the only topic of conversation on the way to school again today *sigh*)

Well done on making the call lastdayofseptember. Onwards and upwards now :)

And Puzz is right...My rear end is considerably smaller than it was 18 months ago, I can squeeze up and make room for more DMPers (just make sure I'm not down-wind of MB, I've heard tales about that ;)
