I try to keep £500 in my emergency fund but sadly it hasn't been enough when we have had car problems, and I have had to drop my monthly payments several times.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

I echo the "token payment for Barclaycard". I learned the hard way, I paid that one last payment before the DMP and lo and behold my car fell apart two weeks later then a tax credits error was discovered and the house made of straw all fell downhad I saved the BC payment I'd have had the car back on the road (it ended up taking 5 weeks) and BC were no nicer because they'd had that one extra payment.
Well, things are coasting along here. Still no further in getting the PPI money but I'm feeling philosophical, perhaps there's a reason and life has thrown a spanner in the works to slow me down a bit.
I didn't get the job and whilst I'm a bit disappointed I'm no worse off - I've lost nothing. Interview feedback was good so I have things to build on and a renewed sense of determination. This time last year a molehill would have derailed me let alone a potential mountain like this, now that I live in DMP land this is a minor hiccup and has been shrugged off. Yes, I had plans for what happened if I got it (another year off the DMP) but life tends to give us what we need rather than what we think we want
Onwards and upwards!

Sorry about the job and drat that redirected PPI - but these things happen for a reason. Its their loss but no doubt you will find something even better soon.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Hi BDFSH,
Don't trust BC... Call them and ask for confirmation that they have received details of the DMP and what the interest is, otherwise they'll feign ignorance and you'll get charged through the bum bumif they say they've not received confirmation then ask them to freeze your account and contact SC to forward details again AND do it yourself for good measure
As for an emergency fund, I think the principle is to have 6 months when you're not in debt... Basically, debt is more expensive than the interest you get on savings. I originally had £500 too but it went in no time so I think most people would suggest a months pay as a fund.
Good luck!

Ahh Kate sorry about the job they clearly don't know what they're missing!
What you said reminds me of something I often say, you get what you can cope with not what you deserve, clearly you're very strong

You are all such lovely people, I should be getting dressed but I had to post and thank you all. I'll be grinning all day thinking of your kind words.
As for the job, they've chosen two excellent people that I'm genuinely pleased for. No point whining about it so asked my boss for some more meaty work straight after I was told and my days are flying pastand something has come up that I'm very interested in already and it's MUCH better
Will be tougher competition but I won't lose anything by trying.
And...tomorrow I'll be one debt down! £220 will clear DH's college course (which I've been banging on about for ages) and with 16 hours until September salary hits the bank I have over £100 left from August! Despite clearing a debt, London, two uni open days, paying for the transport to Liverpool on Saturday and paying for a foreign school trip for DS1!
What a difference a year makes! This time laSt year I was paying bills with credit cards, drowning in PDLs and getting no sleep! I LOVE DMP LAND!
Tuesday is student night here MB (they all have Wednesday afternoon off to study/recover) luckily I'm nowhere near the city centre (and thus the students) but the uni is next door to my office and they've made my morning commute hell this week - does nobody teach then the green cross code??? perhaps invest in a super-soaker or nerf gun to shut them up until they get bored of it? Alternatively, if your back allows, follow them home and make lots of noise there at 7am

Well yesterday when I got home there was a lovely letter from B.card telling me my arrangement was coming to an end and as they haven't heard anything from SC assume I am now rich and can go back to normal payments.. well not quite those words but you get the picture...
So today I rang SC and advised they need to send BC a letter stating I'm still poor which they will do. I then decided I would call BC as well to ensure they knew I wasn't ignoring them... well..
How many security questions.. how can I remember the postcode of my previous address?? I moved 13 years ago.. I have trouble remembering my name some days...!!! Still got through to a lovely lady who said I was very entertaining and I told her I was still poor and she said she would pray for me in church on sunday to become rich..I got her to note my call on the system so they can't say I've ignored them...
Then I decided to ask about the lack of a default, just lots of AP's on credit file.. unfortunately BC have a different idea than the rest of us and the lady having spoken to someone in the know still came back to me and said an AP marker is less damaging than a default despite my attempts to explain it to her.. ho hum.. will send them a complaint letter about this after I have the new arrangement set up... All in all a very pleasant call..Christmas 2020 £109
