M6 toll

Used to go up and down the M6 every weekend a couple of years ago and occasionally used to use the toll road. Was only once ever any traffic on it of volume and the rest of time could put the cruise control on and not have slow once.
The old M6 on the other hand would be heavily subject to time and luck. Going up on a friday evening after work meant I frequently wasnt lucky but even then it was only occasionally terrible and so often it was hard to justify the cost to myself0 -
My objection to the road is the way so many roads round the Southern end are signposted, catch the unwary and send them onto the toll road even for about a 4 mile section.
In practice now the whole of the B'ham M6 section roadworks are finished it runs pretty well, so don't use it unless you know from an independent source (not the overheard signs) that the M6 is stuffed.
We pay taxes and vat on that tax on fuel, plus road fund licence (now VED) for the building and maintenance of our roads, i wonder if MP's pay the Toll out of their own pockets or do they put it on expenses, kerching.0 -
I live in Walsall and when driving up from the south (very rarely) if te stretch around Birmingham is congested i nip up the M42 to juction 10 (for tamworth) then the A5, which will take you to M6 junction 11...
Only used the Toll Road when i had a company credit card that enabled us to use the Toll Road on company expense... i would probably use it a lot more if it were much cheaper, would have to be £2 for a car, not £5.50 as it currently is?0 -
It's not long enough to warrant its price tag. I did a return trip to Manchester and on one direction did the m6 toll route. Don't think it saved much time for me. Obviously just one experience with it and not enough to know if the £6 is worth it.0

£2 will probably mean anybody will use it and make it congested. I think £3.50 is the happy middle where people will use it enough but not too much to make it congested0 -
Its ridiculously over priced for a car, only twice the car price for a 6 axled lorry 44 times the weight of a small car.
Even then few lorry operators will stump up the cost, unless the M6 is jammed.0 -

If you think it's overpriced for a car it's 3 quid on a motorbike!!!!! and bikes don't pay on any other toll road/bridge AFAIK (apart from one on the A52 in Nottingham and that's about 20p)0 -

Yes, that is quite ridiculous...again where the 44 tonner costs £11.
I expect other relief roads to be similarly tolled in years to come as the population reaches saturation point and the roads grind to gridlock ...apparently the planned parallel toll road running along side A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon has been postponed, probably till after the general election...an already taxed till the pips squeak electorate might not vote for whom they are instructed.0 -
however there's a Services on that stretch which is pretty much the only civilised one in England... always quiet.
I haven't actually been to that services myself but I'd be pretty surprised if it's any better than http://www.tebayservices.com/0 -
love the fact most people think its too expensive it keeps it lovely and clear for all the people who can claim it back ........having said that I do still use it even if I am paying not very MSE I grant you but as one poster said its the often the only part of the journey that is traffic free. Tag makes it a bit cheaper for the regulars too but not much0
