M6 toll

Hi . Shocked by the M6 toll cost . No wonder it's a flop . I'm travelling to North Wales via M6 from A14 on a Saturday . My question is should I :juse the Toll or will the non toll M6 be moving at a reasonable pace ?

I always use the toll on my trips back home to Essex, I just love the empty motorway - it's the only stress-free part of the drive!

The short answer is Yes - there are less trucks and 'white vans' around on a Saturday - it's cheaper on a Saturday too.

But there are always the unknowns - like football supporters and the odd accident on the 'real' M6.

Personally I'd rather be stuck in traffic than pay a toll in the UK.

It's going to go bust right and proper soon.

gov.uk will probably take it over when the daft Australians finally realise it's a flop.

however there's a Services on that stretch which is pretty much the only civilised one in England... always quiet.

I hate using the toll road and try to avoid it at all cost

one night the M6 was closed due to roadworks for upgrade to managed motorway and the diversion was via the toll road, and we had to pay the toll which annoyed me as we were forced to take the diversion or go out of our way to follow the A5

I used the M6 from junction 10A to junction 2 last Thursday morning at 8.30am so hight of rush hour and from 10A down to the M5 exit the managed motorway signs were on at 40mph and we kept moving all the way through and it was a little slow but didnt loose more than five minutes

sunday night i ran back up the M6 and the only slow spot was where the M5 joins at junction 8 we didnt stop just slowed up

if it was me I would use the M6 and avoid the toll

also no football at the minute so you wont get any football supporters to add to the traffic

I also hate the Severn bridge toll and the diversion i take costs less than the toll cost, i use the bridge to go out but never use it on the way home

I absolutely love the toll road, particularly the Grand Prix style starts from the toll booths - it's how motoring should be.

However, the price is now too expensive which takes all the fun out of it. Although it does mean you get to avoid all those dreadful variable speed limit gantries through Birmingham. Even when they are off, I'm not sure if the cameras are still recording speeds over 70.

Who needs to goto Germany and pay to go around the Nurburgring? M6 Toll is like a drag strip...

Never seen a police car on there yet.. Maybe lucky... very lucky....

M6 Toll road all the time for me. Never get stuck in traffic jams around Walsall and M5. They are still doing road works on M6 through that area aren't they?

Well the cones are out and the signs warn of work in progress but i have not seen any work being done on the few times i have used it lately.

Bit like when they closed M6 J6 for 2 years? No work done at all in most of that time.

As I live in Birmingham never get to use the Birmingham Bypass but I agree it is way over priced and I notice google navigation will always suggest going via it even when it is miles out of the way, I think they are being paid!

Even if I did not live in Birmingham I would not use it. The only benefit is sometimes time but then no saying you pay your money and then it gets blocked. The signs coming up the M6 saying Toll is clear are owned by the toll road could really do with signs saying M6 clear or M6 very stuffed!
