Marlin Financial Services Letter Threatening CCJ

I've had a letter from Marlin financial services saying if I do not respond or contact them within 7 days of this letter they've just posted to me they are going to take legal action and start court proceedings over an unpaid EGG credit card.
This debt was with Cabot financial who seem to have either past it on to marlin or sold it to them.
The debt has been in default since October 2009 so just over another year and it will be coming off my report.
Should I contact them? Is this an idol threat about taking me to court?
Any advice or anyone who has dealt with them is appreciate your help.
I don't own any property and I am on maternity leave at the moment.
Thanks
