Debt Company MKDP chasing debt from 2008

Hello can anyone help me please
I got a phone call from a company called MKDP how they got my number I have no idea as I am ex directory. Any way they are chasing a Barclaycard debt I raked up when I got the card in 2005. I got a default on my account in 2008 and then the company put a ccj on my old address last year which I didn't own or live at. I tried to negotiate with them and made them an offer of £2000 they said they would want £3000 if paid now or they would take instalments for the whole amount over 1 or 2 years. The point is this many other debt companies I have spoken to are prepared to negotiate really well these ones wont.

What should I do ?:money:

Many thanks:mad:

When exactly in 2008 was the default date? Once it reaches the same date in 2014, it'll be statute barred.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

It was October 2008 but because ccj was made in 2013 it can only be barred if we are in 2019.

Not after they went through a hassle of getting a CCJ.

Well, there is an option not to pay and (most likely) to get chased by bailiffs. Apparently they still don't have rights to enter into your house without your permission, but they have a right to take away your car if you keep it on your driveway.

Go to Debt-Free Wannabe board for a better advice.

Well I am in rented accommodation and am self employed you think they would go to that extreme for £3700 or would they sell the debt on ?

I guess they have bought the debt and then have got the CCJ. What's the point in selling as it's their business to buy debts and to collect the money?

If I tell them I am moving next week into another rented accommodation they will have to try and find me again. They only have my address now because I stupidly gave it to them when they called me.

They couldn't sell a CCJ on as easily as a normal defaulted debt. They'd have to go back to court.

If you told them your new address when you moved away and they sent the paperwork to the old address, you could look to have it set aside. However, it would eventually go back to court and the only way for you to avoid getting the CCJ re-instated would be to pay the £3900 in full within the 28 days allowed. Otherwise you'll be looking at showing the court your income and outgoings and coming to an agreement to pay it back over x years, but you'll still end up with a CCJ.

If you didn't tell the original creditor or MKDP your new address when you moved then you've got no hope.
