School advice please...

Would like some opinions / advice as so far I feel as though I have been too lenient.
My child was viciously attacked in school (broken nose, suspected fractured eye socket) by a child of the same age.
My child had some time off and went back in. Other child although moving to another school in the future (no-one knows when) is allowed back and put in segregation to do work but allowed out at lunch / breaks.
On reflection I feel like the other child should have been suspended until a new school was found, so with that in mind me and DH have decided to keep our child at home until such time.
I'm waiting on school calling me, nobody called all day even though I left a message for the head to call me.
I have been told the other child is now back in lessons as their parent complained!
Any advice grateful.

Have you involved the police? I would be doing so given how serious it is.0

How old are the children involved?0
-
Yes, though still waiting for them to contact child as they have been on "other matters".
Kids are 140 -
The police should have been involved, due the severityof the attack - possibly even social services, depending on the ages of the children concerned. It is still not too late to report it. That would be my first step - as it sounds like something that the school is simply not equipped to deal with. Moving the child to another school - assuming they can get him in to one - does not address the problem (although it will for your child), it just moves it on.
ETA :Just saw that the children are 14 - OP, report it to the police.0 -
I feel exactly the same way sulkisue, the problem is just being moved...0

Agree with others about contacting the police - assuming that this was an 'attack' and not just a fight which your son lost.0

Police are involved. Not sure how much I can "demand" when school calls. I would like the other child gone now, not when a new school is found.0

No it was an attack, not a fight.0

It does seem strange that the school has not suspended the young person or even expelled them considering the severity of the attack. it might help if you gave more details of the incident - where it occurred/what actually happened etc.
As regards speaking to the school I cannot understand why you haven't already visited the school to find out what has happened and on what basis they have 'punished the other young person.'
Also I cannot understand why the police haven't already spoken to the other young person.
If this was an unprovoked attack then you should have been up to the school straight away and asking what procedures they have put in place to make sure your son is safe. You can ask to see their discipline policy and escalate it to the school governors if you are unhappy with what the school has done.
I cannot understand the whole scenario at all. An attack, as described, would warrant immediate expulsion let alone suspension. The police would be acting much quicker than this.0
