Gameover Zeus

5 things to keep you safe.
1. Make sure your windows is up to date.
2. Make sure your AV is up to date and has the latest definitions.
How do you update Windows?
I have updated IE on my desktop, run the scanner that I get with my BT infinity and everything was well. I backed up the computer using an external backup drive.
I then went to Windows. It is Windows 7, service pack 1, Home Premium.
I clicked a link to update it, and it took me to a page to buy Windows Professional. I don't want to buy this.
Is there a way I can just make sure Windows has all the latest patches etc? I suspect it is up-to-date as it is always downloading things and updating them when I turn it off.
I also have a Macbook Air, but have done nothing to that as I think Gameover Zeus only affect MS.
What is AV and how do I check it has the latest definitions?0 -
Those links are absolutely fine. The Dedoimedo web site gives a lot of great guides to Linux and Windows operating systems particularly dual booting. For more background information re Linux and links to linux distro downloads just google the word 'distrowatch'.I have considered Linux for years, for banking, BUT, if I click these links, will It be Gameover:rotfl:
For advice re windows security matters google 'bleeping computer'. Gives good advice for removing windows trojans, viruses, adware etc.
The best Linux 'distros' for beginners are the ones from Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Zorin, LXLE,Solydk.
The sooner you ditch windows the more secure you will be and it definitely will not then be 'gameover'.0 -

I Always run Mbam freeware, actually on free 30 day trial of upgrade, live protection, nothing found on it, so looks ok.At least one article I've seen has a long list of possible hard-disk infection scanners; FSecure, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, Microsoft, to give just a few. And it's always worth running the free version of Malwarebytes' AntiMalware.
titanic captain said that though.

That's true so run malwarebytes first just to check there are no nasties lurking0

haven't backed up for a while, use google drive. You could be backing up already infected files...
when I did a clean instal last november, backups to dvd, wouldn't recover,( my fault I presume) but, got all my pics etc fron Gdrive, so lost nothing.Would Gdrive back up a virus?or malware;just put all pics on pen.0 -
I got this virus last year - same shield logo. I got a warning that my Adobe thing needed updating. I clicked on & the virus took over. But it was made to look like a police notice & the fine was £250 for entering an illegal site. The only way I got rid of it was to press the start button to kill the laptop then keep my finger on F8 & restart it. In safe mode restore the system & its gone!0

Just a quick question. I am running what I think is an outdated version of Avira free - the reason being that every time I try to download the latest version the process stops halfway through and informs me that I MUST uninstall any other anti-malware or antivirus programmes, claiming they are 'incompatible'.
Now, I find Superantispyware and Malwarebytes pretty useful, actually, and I refuse to accommodate this blatant bit of anti-competitive crap.
Does anyone know if it's still going on or whether there's a way round it?0
