17% of all PC 's in the UK are still running xp, hundreds of Millions worldwide. It could be that many a pc that is running xp can't run Win 7 or above? According to the MS checker, my laptop can't run Win 7 or 8.

There's always Linux... ultimately Microsoft is a business and there aim is to develop, make money and ummm... make money.

Granted but unfortunately you have to move with the times, what about all the businesses that were running DOS based systems?

In comparison how many people are still using a Nokia 3210? Instead most people have invested in a smart phone.

I agree but people were asking why the big deal now when Zeus has been around for so long. Maybe MS and the authorities have identified that with the demise of support for XP that there is a real threat now.

And your point is? Nothing stopping people buying a new machine with something newer on it. Just upgrading the OS is not the only fruit.

This in practice only affects Windows systems (as always). Best security is to set up a dual boot of Windows and Linux Mint 17 cinnamon edition and only use the linux side for for your banking and shopping and email etc.
