Fear of expensive insurance claim restricts travel

Read the insurance policy before buying it. If the policy clearly says that they will pay for something, then they will. If the terms are vague, or a particular risk is not covered, they are not obliged to pay, but may do so sometimes. Do remember that cheapest is highly unlikely to be best or even best value, and you need far more detail than you can find in a 'best buy' table or even a de facto rating.
