No I don't share your concerns we go away as often as possible and trust that if the worst happens the insurer will cover it...

    Katejo,
How did you get to Turkey?
Weren't you worried about the drive to the airport in case you were involved in an accident and the insurers refused to pay out?
How about the airplane. That could have crashed leaving you badly injured and if the airline refused to cover your medical bills you would have had to find the money yourself.

If anyone lived their life in a state of "what if", they would become totally paranoid and would never get out of bed.

I have holidayed in many different places but mostly within Europe . Just wanted to find out whether any others had the same concerns as I sometimes do.

No, it's just you. Pay more for the best if you are concerned.

Have a look here for an indication...

Does anyone else find that similar concerns prevent them from visiting some countries outside the EU?

Not in the slightest. Do you risk not driving your car in case your insurance doesn't pay up?

Get a decent policy, don't do anything too stupid, and enjoy yourself while you travel. Life really is too short.

The important thing is to make certain you've declared any pre-existing medical conditions, including any repeat prescriptions you're taking even for stuff that won't cause a medical emergency, as that's usually the reason insurance companies refuse to pay up.
  • Get decent insurance from a firm like Oinc or Hiscox and there's no reason to fear anything.

Zagfles has said exactly what I was going to say.

People think they are being clever in not admitting conditions and then wonder why insurance companies won't pay up.

No, not at all. I make sure I get decent insurance and I make sure I look after myself when I am abroad. For example, I have a bit of a sensitive tum so I am extra careful about what I eat and drink.
