Tough situation, Peachy.
Can someone just explain though, I'm probably going to sound silly, but what are the bonuses of keeping an outdoor male moggy intact? Just strikes me as really irresponsible if it has owners and there are no benefits, one kitty breeding machine.
We have a ginger tom that regularly hangs around our garden like he's trying to antagonise our done kitties. He sprays all over the garden and against the French windows. Total nightmare.0 -

I think that anyone should do this before taking in a possible stray cat.
I'm cat-less at the moment (first time in 35 years) but I would have been bloody furious if anyone had taken one of my cats in and not bothered to check if he had been micro-chipped.
I saw this story on This Morning earlier this week and everyone was saying 'Aw, what a lovely story' but I thought exactly the opposite.
https://uk.tv.yahoo.com/morning-cat-went-missing-9-years-111700102.html
Synopsis is that a guy had a cat who 'disappeared'.
Turns out that a woman took him in (10 miles away, not sure how he got there) and she kept him for 9 years.
He eventually disappeared from her house, was taken to an animal sanctuary and was found to have a micro-chip with his previous owners details on.
The original guy allowed her to keep him.
Peachyprice - the above doesn't sound like your situation (imho).
I doubt that he'll be micro-chipped when you take him to the vets.
It sounds like he's fallen on his feet (as cats tend to do
) and I'm sure he'll be spending the rest of his days with you. 0 -

Nah, the dog cancels out at least two madcat points; you're still safe!

No one will be able to explain this because there is absolutely no reason at all to keep a cat entire unless it is a pedigree registered tom but they are unlikely to go outside! (personally I think an all an all out ban on breeding cats and dogs in this country for a few years wouldn't hurt!)Ant. :cool:0 -

I was talking to a cousin yesterday and she mentioned her cat had had kittens that she was struggling to find homes for.. I asked why she hadn't been neutered and she said "oh we wanted her to have a litter first". I asked if she'd been neutered now and she said no. Not only has the female not been neutered but neither has the resident male cat. I hate to think how many unwanted cats are going to result from this.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. There's a belief that some people have that it is in some way cruel/bad for them if a female cat (same goes for most other animals) doesn't have a litter. Like they would know any different! I'm not sure on the health benefits but think it would be minimal if anything.
I reckon people just want to have some cute fluffy kittens for a bit, then only think afterwards about what they are going to do with them.
We've only got (neutered) boys at the moment but previous female cats have always been spayed. We had one of our current cats from a kitten and I remember what he was like - a whole litter of them would be a nightmare!
Codemonkey, that kind of thing makes me sad, it's just so thoughtless. She's struggling to home these kittens, yet doesn't worry about there being more?! Cats can have litters scarily close together.:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

That's what i tried to tell her. The kittens are three weeks old and as far as I can see, she's made no plans to have either adult cat neutered.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

OP - Have you had him checked for a microchip yet?
It seems that you've done all you can to find the owner and I would certainly want to get him done.
Have you tried the missing pets register?

They have a facebook page as well and if you have facebook you could try that.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440 -
vets will normally check for a microchip for free with no appointment.
I found a dog last year, they did it straight away, back with its owners within the hour0 -
Hi everyone, a quick update, I took the lad to the vet today, no chip I'm afraid.
So, I'll start over with posters/vets/lost pets forums/cat charities, if his owners don't come forward within the next two weeks he'll be in for his chip & chop and will be officially be welcomed into our home with a bowl of his own.
I don't want to leave it much longer than that because I want him all healed and healthy before we go on holiday at the end of July.
I'll keep the thread updated if he does get reunited with his owners, but I'm not holding my breath.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
