Hmmm careful if you were thinking of entering The National Lottery Twitter Comp

The National Lottery are giving away 1 of 32 Bottles of Champagne.
But be mindful of their terms and conditions if you enter in particular the section that reads:
The Promoter reserves the right to refuse entry to serial competition entrants. The Promoter will have ultimate and final say on who fits those criteria, but as a rule, anyone with over 50% of their Twitter communications as entries into competitions may face disqualification. The Promoter's decision is final.
(I have called and left an answerphone message for the legal team at IPM about it - as it doesn't seem right or legal to me - I'll let you know what I hear back)

Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!

Thanks for the heads up Treacle and for taking the time to make enquiries with IPM xx
Must say it gets a tad boring being labelled a "serial comp enterer", "professional comper", "nerd" etcEvery time I hear it/see it I want to start singing that song from Grease... "There Are Worse Things I Could Do".
"The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming"0 -
Don't see the problem if it's in the T&C's, they can restrict entry almost however they like, the only possible issue would be if they went into an area covered by a discrimination act.
(On the plus side they state it rather than just disregard the entries without you knowing)0 -
Seems fair to me, their comp their rules.
If i owned a company i would ban serial compers aswell, far too many who comp full time, or pretend they are so ill they cant possibly work, even though they spend hours entering comps every day.Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -
Glad i don't like champagne0

Glad i don't like champagne
How come Glad offered you champagne then? That's not fair if she has champagne she should offer to all of us..
I've been here far longer than you and I've never been offered so much as a glass of water and here you go turning down bubbly.
*wanders off grumbling*Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

Glad I do like champagne so could I have Sax's share please!
I'll save it to celebrate the start of the Advents in 185 days time!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
They'll probably get hounded now on Twitter by compers... :rotfl:
Like others have said, I imagine it's legal, but I don't believe it's ethical.
VanPopple - I suspect there are those who are too ill to work, who cannot leave the house, that take pleasure in entering competitions. It may be the only thing they feel capable of, and their only real interaction with the outside world.
Just because people comp, it doesn't mean they are well enough to work. You ought to remember there will be some on these boards, who aren't able to work because they can't - not because they pretend to be ill, but because they are ill.
You have the right to your opinions about not allowing serial compers, but I don't think that also gives you the right to essentially write off serial compers who are off work due to illness as lying or not having "enough" of an illness to be off work, on the sole 'evidence' of the fact that they enter competitions.
How very narrow-minded.0 -
I wouldn't care but I bet 95% of the Lottery's fans are serial lottery ticket/card buyers who could be classed at 'compers' if they do it religiously!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

"I'd rather be a comper than a gambler, oooh, yes I would, if I only could, I surely would"
to the tune of Simon and Garfunkel, El Condor Pasa...
Actually I'm both, so not quite sure where I fit in  :rotfl:0 -
So they're going to look at every entrants Twitter account and work out whether 50% of their tweets are competitions?
They'll look at the last few and exclude people.0
