Look at your thread title OP.

You know you're being silly, you say so yourself. We are telling you to stop, like you asked us to. I think you realise, even though you might not want to admit it, that bringing a dog home is a bad idea.

Even if you don't want to admit it to us, I really hope you do the sensible thing and let this idea drop for the time being.

You can never say never but DS1 wouldn't hit a dog, he'd have no reason to, he doesn't just go round hitting people/things for no reason + even if he did the dog would think she was being pat... he's not even near the two mark yet :o

What reason has he got to hit you?
Please do not be so cruel to the dog or your son.

I've skipped a lot of this thread, so please tell me if I've been repeated.

Getting a dog with young children can be wonderful, but is a lot of hard work.

The rescue were being honest, quite rightly that the dog may not be child friendly. Please don't be pulled in by a single picture and a sob story.

I anyone would like a child friendly dog please try

They specialise in rehoming dogs from 8 yrs onwards and so have a pretty good idea of what the dog has been used to/likes.

It can be a great introduction to dog ownership.

Getting puppy, whatever means is no guarantee of a child friendly pet.

Thank you muchly, but I will leave it here.

    Kayalana (if you're still lurking)

Please don't think we're having a go at you - we really aren't.

We just want to keep your children safe (as I have no doubt you do) and to prevent a dog from being potentially put into a situation where it might end being pts.

If you don't believe us then just google about dogs biting children -not pleasant

We have said no and given a £50 donation in her name. Just thought I would update, guilt ridden that she's going in the kennel tomorrow though.

I think people have spoken a lot of sense here.

If I were you I would spend the next few years getting your children through those hard few years so they understand things. As someone has implied, how would you feel if a dog took your sons toy and your son then hit out, even at two an awkward hit could hurt a dog.

Little things with a dog and child can be awkward, we had an open plan downstairs, if I went into the kitchen to make a bottle for DD2 it meant they were left alone where I couldn't see them, ok there was no door between me and them and I trusted our dog totally BUT if you did not trust your child or the pet do you then have to lock the dog somewhere every time you need to do something meaning you were not 100% focused on them.

That was absolutely the right decision.
Hopefully she will soon find a lovely forever home.
In a few years time you will be prepared and able to choose a dog as a family pet which your children, being older, will appreciate. Equally they will be more independent and you will have time to train and enjoy a dog to become a much loved member of your family.

Thank you for letting us know.

    Absolutely the right decision.

I am a breeder, and will not sell puppies to families with very young children. My reasons for this are with very young children parents may not have the time required to put into a puppy. But more importantly, as I breed chihuahuas, I have seen too many tiny pups injured by young children (usually not on purpose). My responsibility is to the pups.
