"Although it's statistically safer than driving etc, I'm always a little aware of the danger when I fly"
What danger??? Are you also aware of the danger when you go on a car (MUCH higher) , walk down the street or so some DIY? Seems a silly thing to say IMO, flying is one of the safest things you can do.
Yes, I'm actually quite aware that driving a car is dangerous. I'm concerned that you, apparently, are not.
Anyway, most people have a heightened sense of mortality the more extreme the thing you're going to put your body through...and the higher the probability of dying in the event of an accident. This is why rollercoasters, bungee jumping et all still give people a buzz despite being safe as houses...0 -
It is one of the most mind numbing boring things you can do..
Especially when you are surrounded by children and babies...And that includes the adults..
Flying is a means to an end.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Turbulence scared the !!!! out of me the first time i experienced it but it is very safe and quite enjoyable. Make sure you get a window seatI've never been on a plane before and I'm terrified. It's only a 2 hour flight, but I'm terrified I'll hate it and be stuck there for 2 hours. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Thanks

Of the six times I've flown I've never noticed take off. First time my ears hurt so bad landing I couldn't believe it. Was dreading the return flight but it was fine and it's never happened since.
It's honestly just like being on a bus. It'd mind numbingly dull so make sure you take some for of entertainment with you. A good book. Few films on an iPad/tablet if you have one. An MP3 player etc.Sigless0 -
As mentioned, try to wear plenty of layers as I'm always warm on a flight (you're nearer the sun!
) but then cold when getting back into the airport.
If you wear contacts try to take glasses as well as the air is very dry, for the same reason drink plenty of water and possibly take moisturiser/hand cream to make you feel a little more human!
Read up on the luggage requirements for liquids and security procedures, this is the biggest ****ache for me0 -

Turbulence was really bad on our last flight to Vegas. As we were coming in to land, it was really bumpy....everyone gave the pilot a round of applause when we finally landed!
Agree also with the wearing of plenty of layers although for a different reason to the above poster....I always feel really cold!0 -

When I first flew I was so nervous, as I am such a wimp, but I loved it,and had a window seat(even though I hate heights).
Go for the window seat if possible and enjoy. I loved it and could not wait to fly again .0 -
Try and get a seat somewhere in the middle of the plane - that's the most stable part so if there is any turbulence you won't feel it as badly as if you're sitting at the front or back.
And if you go to the toilet please please please wear your shoes, don't go in there in bare feet/socks etc - it turns my stomach to see people doing that, when you think about how many people use those toilets and so what must end up on the floor - gross!0 -
I must admit I love the take off ........everything else is boring.
When we took Junior on his first plane flight we had people chuckling to themselves as we 'voiced' the intro to the thunderbirds as we sped along the runway on takeoff2014 Target;
