Comet Nonsense!!

My advice would be to get a refund (if possible) and head over to your nearest Richer Sounds. By far the best impartial advice, with a good stock of TV's. For me, they've gone above and beyond to help me out and in the 6 years I've been a customer I've only ever had one problem. Even then, they offered a free loan amplifier whilst mine was in for repair.
Since i've discovered Richer Sounds, i've stopped looking at the 'usual' High Street stores.
Good luck with your quest!0 -
Hi thanks again for the comments. I had looked at Richer Sounds but the Tv's were out of my son's pricerange. We do buy all our hi-fi seperates and speakers there though and would recommend them. I passed the comet in question today and prewarned an elderly couple (that I knew) before they went in. The said that they were just browsing to pass the afternoon but had also heard about problems with Comet previously. Anyhow I am giving them 5 working days to reply to my letter and will be contacting Trading Standards after then if not resloved.0

Contact Trading Standards now they will sent you out a letter to send to Coment. Did you son pay by cash or credit card because if it was cc then he would have section 75 of the credit act.0

Do a google search, I would but cant be assssed.
nope there is no law, there is the official opinion of some of the sound/lighting industry people. Still it would be reasonable to expect that an expensive piece of electronic goods would be free of defects and so you are covered under the sale of goods act as others have pointed out.0 -
Radojo,
You could call the police and they would turn up guns blazing. Rat tata tata tata tat.....cs grenade through the shop window and a police marksmen on rooftops on the buildings opposite. Then full riot and entry officers wearing black SAS style outfits smash through the door lob a stun grenade at the staff and handcuff everyone using plastic wires before releasing a tazer charge at the leader (manager).
Finally place a rocket launcher at the teenage customer services head and say 'In the name of law, i hereby command you to put in place a structured conflict resolution with the consumer. I hereby authorise a mandatory screening of your customer services records and intend on implementing a code of conduct and enforce trading standard........creep"
I agree with you.
The police are more useful dealing with dead pixels on a faulty television.0 -
I had a dead pixel on the new LCD screen I purchased from PC world. I took it back 5 days after I purchased it as I had been working in between and they switched it on, agreed it was faulty and gave me a brand new one in exchange.

Thanks for your replies. I did mention the sales of good act but the store manager says that he does not follow the act only the Comet rules. quote]
Tell him that although he doesnt follow the act, YOU DO. Moreso, that Comet rules dont cover your interests, so you dont follow those. Dont let him fob you off, if he doesnt follow the ACT, which is legally binding, tell him you want to be dealt with someone who does.
I havent seen any signs outside Comet that says "We dont follow Sales of goods act","But we do have a Comet Rule Policy". I think maybe because, not only would that be deemed illegal, but might jut put customers right off!!!:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Personally one dead pixel would miff me off, because out of all the viewing area available, I would keep looking at the dead pixel.0 -

Can't remember which 'institute' it was but they make the distinction between dead and stuck and it also depends on whereabouts on the screen it is. It's still not acceptable as its a flaw and under the sale of goods act you would expect goods to be of acceptable quality and free of flaws/defects in workmanship.0
