OK, so I like chocolate, but it's high time I stopped seeing its effects in the mirror. So can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably priced gym in Belfast, preferably central, east or south. I've heard the one at the Holiday Inn's good, anyone know?

Its called Spirit Health Club and I used to be a member of it when I lived close to it, about 3 years ago now. Used to go in the evenings and back then it wasn't overly busy, sometimes had to wait for the popular machines i.e. running / cycling but there was always plenty of other machines to use while I was waiting.
Was very handy that they supplied a towel for you (and shower gel/shampoo).
Note - back then you had to sign up for a 12 months contract, and as I moved house after about 8 months I ended up having to pay for 4 months without using it (I'd no car at that stage).
Am actually thinking of joining a gym myself and was recommended the Robinson Sports Centre in Castlereagh. If you join you can also use Lough Moss Centre and Belvoir Activity Centre as they are part of the same group.
HTHWhy do companies offer you "free gifts?"
Since when has a gift NOT been free?0 -
No idea if it is reasonably priced but what about Fatness First - they seem to have gyms all over the place?

fitness first at connswater is very good.it can be as cheap as £19.99 a month.they always have free trials on and usually waive the joining fee...free coffee ,tea, shampoo , conditioner and shower gel.no swimming pool though.0

a few of my friends used to go to the ymca in the city ... could be worth a tryTHESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS ……

I have worked in several of the gyms mentioned, it comes down to what you want from the gym
swimming pool (usually extra cost)
selection of classes (big studio therefore easier to get in)
lots of machines (i.e treadmills etc when its busy)
Robinson centre now called Breathe is probably the best at the moment approx £20-25 a month for membership and I think includes the pool use.
Week commencing Monday 9th is free trial all week so now is the time. (Also includes use of Loughmoss & Belvoir Centres.
Fitness First similiar price but no pool. Good range of classes and equipment and you can use any of there clubs, Connswater, Boucher Rd, Newtownabbey etc.
LA Fitness Adelaide St & Shawsbridge both have pools and more expensive. Shawsbridge has around 70 classes a week but is very busy. Cost is around £35-40 a month but check regularly for monthly offers.
Esporta is probably the best gym in NI for facilities, equipment, cleanliness etc but is reflected by the Cost around £50 a month.
Hope this helps, if you need more advice pm me0 -
Thanks for the info. I'll check out Breathe at the Robinson centre next week and see how I get on.0

I'm a member of breathe and can recommend it. Like all gyms it can be busy at times but it is much better than fitness first. I was a member there (Connswater) for 2 years and half the time I stood around waiting for machines. I pay £19 a month for membership.
If you go in the morning arouond 7:30 or 8 it is practically empty.0 -
Want a laugh? I enquired about membership to Holmes Place in Canary Riverside and it was approximately £117 per month for corporate membership of £130 per month for regulars and they would generously waive the joining fee.
I had to stifle a laugh right in his face. I suppose if some people weren't paying they wouldn't be charging that would they? Even high end luxury clubs don't charge that much. Highest I've heard below that is approx £80 for a gym which I think was called Reebok or something or other.
Maybe I should give up my job and open a gym.
Personally I find Fitness First to be good value due to their 'any club' usage. I can't swim anyway, only paddle and float. Besides people do all kinds of things in dem pools - yuk!The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
I go to Qeens Physical Education Centre and they are offerring two options
'Pay & Play' - £60 per annum + £1.80 admission each time you attend
or 'Annual' - £210 per annum, with no admission charges
Link to Membership details
But it does depend on what you are looking for,
they run regular classes circuits bums and tums etc.
it has a 33m pool,
good weights room,
squash courts0 -
When I lived in Belfast- myself and my girlfriend used LA Fitness.....
They seem to always have deals on.....the deal was that if I signed up to be a Gold Member (can use any LA FITNESS and a towel on each visit) at something like £50 a month....she got a Silver membership (No Towel and no other gym) free......
So it was £25 each per month.
It was a nice gym- swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, studio etc and pretty up to date....
So if you've got a partner/friend.....then try LA fitness....the deal only operates at certain times of the year I think...0
