Arrived back 23:30 last night after trip away for weekend to stay with relatives. Nice relaxing time, especially with the weather being scorching hot yesterday and enjoying a barbecue in the garden. Back to reality today, shopping, washing etc.
Have done a meal plan until the end of next week, and will avoid going near any shops for the rest of this week. Well, that is the cunning plan, anyway. All surplus money from my salary has been spent on fuel for the weekend break, and on kit for DS who has just joined a tennis club. What's in the bank account is accounted for and there is no spare for any frivolous spending, so I should be able to meet my target this month.
I am trying to build up a small emergency fund to cover unforeseen expenditure, and also trying to start a bit of a savings fund as well. And I have decided to try and get to the local shop or the big supermarkets in the evenings if possible, to snaffle some of the YS bargains people keep talking about.
There are just fourteen months left to our Debt Free date (IVA payments) and I am determined not to let my new [STRIKE]stinginess[/STRIKE]frugality slip by the wayside. I know how easy it is to get heavily in debt, and I am not going there again. OH has no interest in building up savings as he lost loads of money years ago when his first marriage ended, and now he has the attitude that money is there to be spent. Can't blame him for that, but one of us has got to be the grownup in matters financial, and it looks like it has to be me.
I must say, though, I like the challenge of making money go further, and picking up bargains, and making lovely meals and presents at low cost. You can be frugal and still have a comfortable lifestyle - but it takes discipline.
And that is precisely where this thread comes in. Anything that makes you consider your spending carefully has got to be worth doing.
So, here we go with the June challenge.....One life - your life - live it!0 -
Today was a spend day. There were two 'want, not need' items that I resisted.I did spend more than intended on things I need for the garden, including a red gooseberry and a raspberry plant. Those two items were planned spends.I do have some money in my budget that I can filch in order to cover the spend.
This month is going to be tight, but do-able.I just need to be sensible.
I'll have to do the update tomorrow. My bed is beckoning me over.:)0 -

Ummmm,woohoo!
NSD#2 :j.
Back to school morning chaos, work rush, after school madness.........
Absolutely positively no time for spending money.Even when I went to 2 different supermarkets tonight looking for summer school dresses I couldn't spend money.Apparently leaving uniform shopping until the end of the first day back at school (about 2 months after said uniforms started appearing in supermarkets),is leaving it a bit late.

A lot of nsders don't count petrol,as it's an essential spend.Remember,it's you who makes up the rules for yourself. Some don't count budgeted spends, bread, milk, any spends needed for hospital appts ie parking etc.At first I used to count every single spend, but for me,this challenge is all about avoiding impulsive and unneeded spends.
There is a list of spends that don't count as a spend with me.These are:
-all bill and subscriptions
-prescriptions
-swimming (subscription)
-using public transport (subscription)
-fresh fruit and veg
-bottled water
-any purchases needed for TTOTM.
I don't feel in any way that I'm 'cheating'.It's what works for me.So,have a wee think about what you would be happy to allow as spends.:)
PS and don't be too hard on yourself!:A
beanie hope it's nothing serious,(((take care))).0
