Did you speak to lowcostholidays or Thomson directly. Thomson are usually reasonably helpful whereas I know lowcostholidays aren't.

The flights to Luxor are booked and non-refundable. They're happy to book a new set of flights from Gatwick to Sharm for about £2k.

They are non refundable but there is no harm in explaining the situation and seeing if they will help. You will still have to pay the difference in price though, which will be around £1000.

Which hotel is it? The ones I have looked at state 'Distance from Airport: 10 miles - Sharm el Sheikh'

It is the Maritim Jolie Ville Golf & Resort.

I think the issue is whether the company has a obligation to load only nearby hotels to the airport as lea2012 has pointed out.

We have already spoken to lowcostholidays who aren't helpful. As mentioned above they're happy to book a new set of flights should we wish to stay in Sharm El Sheik or refund the cost of the hotel less 25% cancellation charge.

If you go to their website and choose London as the departure and Egypt as the arrival.
So basically it has thrown up details exactally what you asked for. It could be viewed its your fault, but to be honest it's misleading. I just had a look at the website and I replicated what you have said.

I would get on the phone to them and get them to sort it out. You may find the hotel is cancellable but the flight is not.

@PeteDoff - Flights from Luxor to Sharm El Sheik all go via Cairo. I haven't even looked at whether we can realistically make a same day connection. Transfers were not included as an option. We were not too bothered at the time because the hotel itself said it was only 15 minutes from the airport. It didn't say Sharm El Sheik airport...

Being a new user I unfortunately cannot insert links. A tripadvisor post says to get from Luxor to Sharm El Sheik requires a ferry and a four hour bus ride. EgyptAir website says the flight takes about 5 hours in total and requires a stop over in Cairo. I stand corrected it being 178 miles.

About 4 hours on a bus from Luxor to Hurghada and then a ferry to Sharm USED to be an option but the ferry has not operated for quite some time (18 months maybe????). There also used to be direct flights from Luxor to Sharm (Egyptair) but they haven't been on the agenda for about 6 months. These days, you fly to Cairo (approx 1 hr) and then catch a connecting flight to Sharm (approx 50 mins). Can be about 3 hours in total or much, much longer. There is also a direct bus but that takes about 16 hours (extremely cheap though!)

You searched for Egypt, they gave you results in Egypt. The description states the hotel is 'located three miles from Sharm el Sheikh airport' and then on the map page 'Distance from Airport: 5 miles - Sharm el Sheikh'. I hope you get something sorted, but I can't see how LCH are in any way to blame.

Try Thomson tomorrow first thing if I was you. You usually get 24 hours to correct any mistakes and being as it was the weekend and bank holiday they might help you.

Egyptair fly from Luxor to Sharm, it goes via Cairo, but the return fares seem to be appox £250 per person.

To be honest I don't think I would take a bus or coach given the current climate out there.

To be fair, although the information on distance from airport to hotel is readily available on the web - I probably would have done exactly the same thing and booked assuming that the hotel was near to the airport chosen for the flight.

I'd certainly speak to Lowcost and see what (if) they can do anything to help.

I understand what you're saying tomtontom but I said Egypt as a country of destination and then selected Luxor as the airport. It would be a bit like selecting USA as the country, JFK as the arrival airport. One would not expect to see hotels in Vegas in the subsequent list.

Indeed I have just checked this. You can't select USA alone, you have to select a state. I tried Germany and India, you cannot select by country but by area. Therefore you will get lists of hotels for the area. For Egypt you can select by area but also by country alone. Why have these restrictions for other countries but not Egypt?
