Remember to have your phone charging in the car as the GPS sucks power I can't get to Aberdeen from Glasgow without the phone dying.0

My old Galaxy S2 used to run thge battery down whilst on charge if you used a generic Car lead.
You had to use the proper Samsung lead for it to stay charged. Puts out 700mA instead of the usual 500mACensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
We tried NavFree on our Hudl yesterday and it was brilliant. Much faster than a phone at working out where you are. I deliberately left it turned off untill we were about 50 miles from home and it pinpointed our location in less than 30 seconds.0

I tried google maps a year or 2 ago on an android phone before but didn't like it as despite using generic charger the battery died eventually and I found the actual navigation to be worse than my tomtom. The data connection is another one: if driving abroad this could get costly0

Things have moved on from a year or two ago and I don't think anything like Google Navigation (not maps) should ever equal a proper navigation device but for those of us too tight to stump up for one it is, in my view, ok, not brilliant cos it can send you he long way round sometimes, but it is ok.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

The whole point of this thread was that the OP wanted an app that didn't use a data connection

Yes and google maps was suggested but it needs data, certainly for such a long drive0
