Quick question aimed at gardeners amonst us. At the back of my brain is an anti-slug remedy involving egg shells. I've saved the ones from quiche-making yesterday, washed, dried and roughly crushed them and then baked them in the oven for a bit. Do I now spread them on the tops of the pots like a mulch?
The council repainted the double yellows on the road top to bottom yesterday and then the traffic wardens came a ticketed every single vehicle that was parked on the street and slapped a removal notice on the pajero that's been in the same place for three years. I didn't think it would ever be tackled but today the road is clear. I suspect it may have something to do with turning a derelict job centre into 30 housing association flats. Cue cheerful builder's singing (rather than Radio 1 please) and dust for 18 months or so. I'm all in favour of infilling rather than green field development.
And the best Pick Your Own ever opens for the season today, so I might go and sit under a gooseberry bush for a few hours. Gooseberry fool, gooseberry crumble, gooseberry jam ....
First WM load on, second one of darks and dog blankets due to get shovelled in.Better is good enough.0 -

Dusty goldfinches look like little clowns (well to me anyway) - very brightly coloured and love niger seeds and cornflowers - they usually fly in a group and have a lovely song.
They were sitting on the perennial cornflowers!I deahead them for more flowers - do they like the seeds? I'll leave them if they do? They were gold finches. I'll listen out for them, I saw 3 but could have been more. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
honey, havent been to a PYO farm for years, have a lovely time and i hope you get lots. i agree re reusing old buildings, there was a lovely huge pub in the middle of our town (we lived there in our younger days) but it declined and was hardly ever used then closed for a bit curry house etc. now its been converted into apartments so weve kept the beautiful look of the outside but about 30 or so flats and apartments have been created. theres also a couple of old factories that have had the same done to them.

HB, yes, slugs and snails hate gritty soil and generally won't cross it. Must do something with my hostas this week - I've go the stuff to protect them but haven't got round to planting them into big pots.
I have
- eaten breakfast
- filled DW and wiped worktops
- talked to DH and got my thoughts together regarding this course
- put away ironed shirts
- sorted out some lace bobbins for DH to take to the U3A group - not for him to use, but to see if anyone wants to buy some!
- sent him out.
I need to
- make another :coffee:
- order or download a CD
- concentrate on typing up this course
Will catch up with everyone later...0 -
Morning all.
DD is making jellies, jelly sweets (when I can find my recipe for them!) and baking. That should keep her entertained for the day until she gets bored, which is why she's got so many different things to make.
I want to get on with work, but I'm waiting on my laptop to finish its checks as I have loads of emails to download and sort as well as accounts to juggleI expect that to take me the best part of 2 hours at least. There's loads of admin for me to do before I even think about my order needing to go in tomorrow!
Off to deal with personal email :wave:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Hi - started my HHC early and have now done over an hour!!! No idea why I put it off because so much better already - but not the paperwork that is a lot better but still very much a "work in progress".
Dusty - when we had cornflowers the goldfinches were always on them but not sure if it was the seeds or perhaps insects on the flowers they were after. The collective noun for them is a "charm of goldfinches" - and you probably did see more than three and they sort of swoop up and down as they fly - can't describe it too well but you'll kwim if you see a lot of them in flight. Apart from long tailed tits they are my favourites.
Thanks Ionafan.
Just having a coffee then another double HHC at 11July 16 £95/£200

Now just need to work on decluttering some more items to the cs.
Has anybody got a technique for dewebbing over the stairs? Even stood on tiptoes with the hoover extension I'm still a few feet too short (and OH isn't much taller than me)
