If you click the Start button and type in "Internet" (but without the speech marks) does Internet Explorer show up in the list of search results?0

Yup, it shoes up, I even have the icon on my desktop, it just doesn't show up on the programmes list so I can't locate it on there to uninstall or delete it. I can select the Internet to open but all I get is a blank page with all the (dead) icons.0 -

IE doesn't show up in the list of programs like other ones... you need to click "view installed updates" on the left as mentioned in this link:

Try a system restore, it's easy to do and if you roll the computer back to an earlier date with a bit of luck it should come back. I'm in no way computer literate and I managed to sort out my son's like this.0

can you open ie from the icon you have? then hold Control key and press 0 (zero), may be a zoom problem.
From what you described you cant possibly have destroyed it.
Amazing ppl find the need to clean the keyboard when the computer is on! lesson learned I hope ;-)
your favourites should still be located in c:\windows\users\<your name>\favorites folder, if that helps ease the pain.
you can also import those favorites into chrome;

OK, I've got the page open but can only see a long list of Microsoft updates (among a few other things eg Adobe). I can't see anything called Internet Explorer at all, what else would they have called IE?0 -

Sadly the Control O doesn't seem to have any effect
The thing is, I wasn't even cleaning the keys- it was the outside/rim of the keyboard! I've assumed it was me because there is nothing else which would have touched the computer or been downloaded to mess things up, thus it must be me. But I was so sure I hadn't clicked on any keys, obviously I must have done
I tried the search instructions you've added, an error message appears telling me it does not exist. It was saved in the Google toolbar which isn't available on the IE page when opened.0
