Was that not answered in post 5?
No, as far as I read in post 5 you confirmed that the person who wrote the cheque has had it show on their acct as a debit.
You havent got it showing on your own account yet. But you dont know where it has been credited.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
for a start you could answer my first question in post #2
I already did in post 5.
However, perhaps my original post was not as clear as it could have been. To clarify what I was alluding to in the first sentence: I deposited the cheque and took the receipt (as I always do) but on this occasion didn't check it. After realising that the payment wasn't showing in my account I looked at the receipt and discovered that the sort code and account number were not mine. No, as far as I read in post 5 you confirmed that the person who wrote the cheque has had it show on their acct as a debit.

I had hoped "yes" in response to mgdavid's question had made this clear. In any case my future posts confirmed that I knew where it had been credited.
Happy to say that this is now sorted.
I went to the branch yesterday morning and after a few minutes checking they (re)confirmed that the teller had erroneously credited another account. They promptly credited my account (and will reclaim the amount from the other person).
They couldn't explain for sure why it ended up in the wrong account but suggested that the system may have not been refreshed before they started the transaction. What I do know is that due to the relatively low value of the cheque it won't have been looked at again after being accepted by the teller.
Many thanks to everyone that replied.0 -
Ooh do I get a bonus point? They couldn't explain for sure why it ended up in the wrong account but suggested that the system may have not been refreshed before they started the transaction.PeacefulWaters wrote: »It's a really weird issue. I don't know their systems but it might be as simple as a cashier failing to complete the previous transaction. Good luck.0
